Sakai Tooru is a young office worker who, despite being married, has been having multiple affairs. Four young people have been arrested for crimes they did not commit. One of them is Katsuragi Ataru (Ichihara Hayato) who has been wrongly accused of murder and put behind bars in a Kita Kyushu jail. However, when he learns that his daughter with Sasaoka Yuki (Fukuda Saki) is in a critical condition because of an incurable heart ailment, he decides to break out of the jail. He is joined by three buddies – Kawashima Ryunosuke (Tsukamoto Takashi), a gangster serving a 10-year sentence for a murder; Takimoto Kuya (Ueda Tatsuya), a former host sentenced to 4 years for violation of the stimulant drugs control act and obstructing officers from performing their duty; and Kagami Shun (Suda Masaki), an ex-dispatch rider sentenced to 3 years for violating the stimulant drugs control act as well. Although their motives and backgrounds are different, all of them are innocent and there are reasons why they cannot wait till their release. They have to get out of this jail as soon as they can. So they band together and begin to plan their escape in order to accomplish their goals. Ten years back, Miwa's friend committed suicide because she couldn't stand that Yosuke, the one she loved, got along so well with Miwa instead of her. The suicide caused the entire town to put the blame on the couple, thus forcing them to break off. Ten years later, Miwa and Yosuke happen to meet again. Though the love between them still exists, the reality makes their being together impossible. Miwa is getting married soon, and Yosuke has then established a new relationship with another girl, Ritsuko. Unfortunately, Miwa's marriage is a failure, and yet she couldn't turn back till one day ... but it ends up hurting somebody again.

The story follows the daily strange happenings of the sailor-suit-wearing high school student, Konno Miyuki.

Born into an Osaka takoyaki shop, the young Himawari was inspired by her father's words to immerse herself in enka. At the age of 13 her father disappears and her mother, bitter over the husband that left her, remarries--but Himawari has trouble adjusting to a new father and brother. With her father's words in her head--"You're the #1 singer in all of Japan!"--Himawari immediately heads to Tokyo after high school and makes her debut as an enka singer.
