The story begins with the unexpected situation of the concert in Shanghai in 2008. Lying on a stretcher, the third brother, Deng Chang Fu, recalled that on the morning of the early winter of 1953, the fourth child of the Deng family, "the girl", was born in the village of Taiwan's family. The girl's talent in singing appeared when she was young, but her father, Deng Shu, firmly opposed it. Deng Shu retired from the army and began his career as a market stall.

The girl was puzzled by the depression and homesickness in her father's heart, but she became a little helper for her father to sell steamed buns. After graduating from primary school, the girl was not admitted to junior high school. However, winning the singing competition through the radio has become a regular shift for singing programmes. Deng Shu clashed with hooligans at the market stall, was beaten and injured, and went into a lawsuit.

Late at night, the couple felt that all this was due to the lack of a fixed store. The girl listened in her ear, loved her parents, became a signed singer, paid in advance, and used the money to top the store for her father. Deng Shu was moved when he knew. The girl finally made it to the stage and got countless good reviews.

In 1895 (Meiji 28), Nonaka Chiyoko prays for the safety of her husband Itaru who is attempting to climb Mt Fuji in midwinter. If he accomplishes what no one has done before, he would finally build an observatory on the mountain’s summit with the intention of staying there alone in the winter. He will be able to observe the weather in order to advance meteorological studies even though it may be at the cost of his own life. Burning with a conviction that the country cannot be changed if no commoner demonstrates it first, Itaru has the support of his parents and younger brother but Chiyoko is absolutely anxious. She is convinced that her husband will certainly die of such recklessness if she lets him go alone, and decides to climb Mt Fuji together with him. However, this is vehemently opposed by her mother-in-law Tomiko who berates her that her place is at home, and Chiyoko apparently reconsiders. In order to join Itaru, she hides this plan from the people around her, deceives Tomiko and does everything possible to finally carry it out. On the summit of Mt Fuji in midwinter – a feat no one has yet achieved, husband and wife battle the cold and altitude sickness as they begin their observations.

The world-famous woodblock artist Hokusai, a widower in need of a steady income, lives with his daughter Oei in the house of his friend Bakin.

Hailing from a rich family, Ip Man devoted his life to practicing Wing Chun in the city of Foshan. When Gong Baosen, Chairman of the Chinese Martial Artists Union, decides to mark his retirement with a sparring match in Foshan, Ip is thrust into the limelight as Baosen's chosen opponent.

He also decides to go to Akabane to find himself.

Takayuki Yamada first contacts director Nobuhiro Yamashita and asks him to film him in Akabane. He then makes an appointment to meet manga writer Toru Seino (writer and main character in "Uhyo! Tokyo-to Kita-ku Akabane”) in Akabane. Takayuki Yamada goes on to meet other people from the manga and also interacts with his acting friends Gou Ayano, Kyosuke Yabe, director Hitoshi One, musician Kazuya Yoshii and others.

Choi Bae Dal is a young man with ambition, brawn and a quiet, solitary intellect; the story begins with a short glimpse of how Bae Dal started in his endless search to be great, going from a young street boxer to joining the Japanese Air Force in 1938 during the end of WWII. At the aviation base, he and other Korean men refuse to participate in a kamikaze mission and is therefor discharged and shunned - but not before getting beaten down by proud General Kato Harada, himself a seventh-level Black Belt and indignant to Bae Dal's self-proclaimed Chosun Martial Arts. With the end of the war, he muses on a liberated, yet devastated Korea, comparing it now to his shattered spirit. Staying in Japan, he scrounges a living with his wartime friend Chun Bae, selling a gambling Pachinko Machine. Japan is now brimming with American soldiers and Yakuza, and Bae Dal and Chun Bae manage to get on the wrong side of a local Yakuza. Despite his best efforts to fight back, Bae Dal is beaten again and humiliated, and it is at this moment he is reuinted with his family's old friend and his own fighter-idol, Beom Su. As a guard for a circus troupe, Beom Su knows the Yakuza all too well, and fights them off, keeping Bae Dal and Chun Bae under his care. Pleaing for help, Bae Dal begins his karate training once more under the tutledge of Beom Su. He pratices the moves and ideology he learns by seeking to mete out justice to those wrong-doers in the streets. Thus he saves pretty geisha Youko from being raped by Americans, and a romance blossoms. But when his sensei is killed by the Yakuza and Bae Dal takes his revenge upon the criminals, Bae Dal is not only ashamed of his hasty, bloody and vain actions, but tenfold determinded to hone his craft. So he escapes to the solitary mountains for gruesome physical training, in the likeness of legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Prefecting his martial arts and his body, Bae Dal then returns to civilization and immediately scours the country looking for a fight, trying to find anyone skilled enough to match him. Soon every dojo and Black Belt is defeated by his powerhouse karate, and even The New York Times is quoted as calling him "The Toughest Man Alive". News of this soon reaches Kato, his old advesary who is now the head of the Martial Arts Union and insulted by his popularity. The Japanese are, of course, unwilling to admit defeat to a Korean, and claim his martial arts is just thug-fighting.
