After a devastating earthquake strikes Makuhara the northern part of Chiba, 18 year-old Yamato, leaves to Makuhara to find his friend Kiichi who lives in the area. On his way Yamato meets Takeru, who is also traveling to Makuhara as a volunteer in the relief effort. However, when the two arrive at Makuhara they are shocked to find that the city, which is under government lock down, is intact and is managed solely by children after a mysterious virus results in the deaths of all the adults. Forced to survive on their own, the child leaders must save the city and also fight the government, which tries to hide the truth.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department creates a new division which consists of 5 female detectives. The new division is called Higanbana which is a flower with a poison root. The 5 female detective have their own specialties and sensitivities. The women try to solve a murder that took place at the wedding of a female doctor. Detective Nagisa Kinomiya (Maki Horikita) is a member of Higanbana. She has the special ability of sensing a criminal’s murderous intent and ill will.

Spanning from 1925 to 1949, the series focuses on three children of a big family in Liling county, Hunan province and their search for a political path in the chaos of 20th century China. Their life is set against a number of significant historic events, such as First United Front, Second United Front, the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–45), Chinese Civil War and the foundation of the People's Republic of China.

Keiichi who is due to marry his girlfriend 48 days later when she returns from her business trip to China however, before that happens, Keiichi ends up sharing his apartment with 3 other women and tries to hide this from Kano who happens to return home earlier than expected.

Makabe Yukiko is a detective in the First Investigative Division’s Emergency Investigation Response Team. They are a team of interrogation experts that goes by the name of Kintori. Surrounded by idiosyncratic veteran interrogators, she pursues the truth hidden behind cases as she plays mind and word games with tough criminals. The dead body of 28-year-old deliveryman Komaki Shusuke is found inside the delivery van of a courier service. The cause of death is drug poisoning. However, there is one queer point about the dead body. Komaki died in the driver’s seat with an open umbrella which he should not have needed for some strange reason. Right after that, an elderly widow Shirakawa Tamiko, who has no kin, gives herself up to the police. But worryingly, even her memory of turning herself in gets fuzzy in less than a few hours. The mystery deepens when none of the fingerprints inside the vehicle match Tamiko’s and the drug used in the crime is not found in her house. The case is designated an important one and the Kintori are put in charge of the interrogation. However, Yukiko is forced into an unexpectedly hard fight with Tamiko. Which are lies, which are truths? Yukiko feels impatient with Tamiko who is not straightforward, but does everything she can to gain a foothold. However, the more she probes, the more Tamiko’s real intentions get enveloped in fog …

With the progress made in forensic science, the number of cases of arrested criminals proven innocent because of new DNA tests has been increasing. The police always expect to swiftly solve cases. As crime scene detectives try to measure up to those expectations, they occasionally jump to wrong conclusions. Thus, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s First Investigative Division set up the Evidence Verification Section and gave it the important task of validating cases that have been closed within a limited time in order to prevent wrongful convictions from happening as a result of out of control investigators at crime scenes. But its actual job is to correct typographical errors and omissions and stamp investigation reports with the words ‘verification completed’, and then send it over to public prosecutors. The members of the section, headed by a veteran detective who worked his way up and has lost passion for his work, are a little idiosyncratic and somewhat difficult. It is merely a titular section meant to call the attention of the public to the fairness of the police. Deputy Inspector Shinkai Akira (Mizuki Arisa), a career elite who has been sidelined as a result of some incident, is assigned to be the new leader of the Evidence Verification Section. A sharp-minded female who gives the impression of an eccentric person, Akira breaks away from the bureaucratic work and genuinely starts to validate evidence, demonstrating her ability to take action and sense of justice in order to rally her disillusioned subordinates. Discovering new facts from small doubts in the reports, she overturns cases that should have been solved and finds the true criminals.

Mung Ka-Ka (Sheren Tang), Cho Mei-Ngoh (Kiki Sheung) and Hilary Ding Mui-Hong (Cecilia Yip) are good friends and they are experts on how to raise a family. They teach Ko Wing-Kuen (David Chiang) how to raise his daughter and show him that it takes more than words to care for a child.
