In the early days of the Republic, legendary martial artist Ye Ruzhou suffers a severe injury, losing her memory and winding up in the impoverished alley of Minfu Lane. By a twist of fate, she crosses paths with the carefree Chen Awang, and the two fall for each other. When local tyrant Zheng Juehou intensifies his hold over the neighborhood, Ye Ruzhou rises to defend her new community. 11-year-old Chan Yi is looking after his lovely younger sister So Yi by himself ever since their mother left them to find her own future. Despite their desperate situation of being abandoned by family and neighbours, these kids try their best to carry on life. One day, a little puppy joins this small family as Chan Yi steals it from an old couple's kennel as a gift his sister's birthday. Especially clever, this dog, whose name is "Ma Eum", returns the love received from his new family with great loyalty and it seems as though their happiness would continue forever... only until a sudden accident brings them into collapse.

When the sun sets, the Hongs, the perfect model family, busy themselves with the family thieving business. As descendants of Hong Gil-dong, the Joseon Kingdom's (1392-1910) Robin Hood who stole from the rich to give to the hardworking poor, they scheme to fight against corrupt business mogul (Kim Soo-ro). But the family secret becomes a problem when Hong Mu-hyeok (Lee Beom-soo) plans to marry his girlfriend.

The story itself is pretty straightforward. It follows a typical boy-girl romance who met in their teens and meet again as adults, telling the story of their past in flashbacks. Ken (Edward Ma) and Bobo (Angel Chiang) are the protagonists, and it is their love story that Kong focuses on. Unfortunately, their characters are not developed well throughout the majority of the storyline. Bobo retains a sense of naïve innocence, even when she decides to turn to prostitution in order to fund her mother’s health treatment, the gritty characters such as her pimp and later her violent clients seem more real than Bobo herself, who just continues along as the sweet girl trying her best. She does not change at all as a character despite such harrowing and life changing experiences that she goes through.

A movie about a man who was a riot police officer during the May 18 pro-democracy movement, repenting after suffering from a sense of guilt, and avenging for those who were responsible during that time.
