Zhang Neng Liang is a fuerdai (second generation rich) who fails the university entrance exams and joins the People’s Liberation Army as a member of the tank crew. Squad leader Niu Nul Li comes from a rural village, and missed out on a place in the military academy twice due to Zhang Neng Liang. They start off on the wrong foot, though eventually become fast friends after being allocated to the same team. The pair are joined by sole female crew member Ye Xiao Meng, an earnest tomboy who becomes the army’s first female tank driver.

Pakin, a guy who was born in a wealthy family, was sent to live in America because Pakinee, his mother knows that he can remember his past life since he was 3 years old. Despite the fact that he comes from a long line of disciplined workers, Law Yiu-wah (Moses Chan) is a teacher of a notorious school. One day, he was urged to resign after being vilified by his students as a peeping Tom. At present, the triads have expanded their drug network at local schools. Wah, who has turned into a cop, is told to go undercover at the school where he used to teach. At school, he is impressed by the enthusiasm of a new teacher Ho Miu-suet (Tavia Yeung). He also comes to realize he was too strict with his students in the past. With a determination to boost students’ confidence, Suet invites bowling expert Koo Ka-lam (Linda Chung) to teach bowling at the school. When Wah learns about her triad background, he decides to go after her hoping to learn more about the triads. Wah also finds himself in a contest of wits with Inspector Ching Man-lik (Ron Ng), who has been assigned to work as a liaison officer at the school. On one hand, Man is attracted to Suet but on the other, she only loves Wah. All of a sudden, Wah, Suet, Lam and Lik find themselves involved in a complicated love square.

When Kyoichiro comes home, he hears that his 14-year-old son Kyosuke was stabbed to death. The person who killed Kyosuke turns out to be 13-year-old Mitsuru. The two boys were classmates. Due to Japan's juvenile law, Mitsuru will not receive commensurate punishment for his crime. Kyoichiro points his anger at Mitsuru and his mother Hatsumi, but Kyoichiro sees that Hatsumi also suffers from her son's actions.

Tokugawa Yoshimune is the 8th Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. He continues to have bad people creating havoc within his city of Megumi. With the help of his close associates, Lord Tokugawa is allowed to roam throughout his city, disguised as Tokuda Shinnosuke, an average Joe living within Megumi. By mixing in with the population, Shin-san (as everyone in the city calls him) is able to research issues first-hand. His help includes oniwaban (ninjas) and the captain of the Megumi fire company. Yoshimune uses the fire company as his base while he's away from Himeji Castle. The captain of the company and the oniwaban know his identity, but everyone else in the city is unaware that he is the Shogun. Once Yoshimune solves the crimes, he confronts them. Just about every time, the bad people whip out their samurai swords in an attempt to kill Yoshimune, although most of the time they still don't know who he REALLY is. Most of the time, Yoshimume flips his samurai sword so that the dull side is out. This way, he can still take his opponents down without making sashimi out of them. Very rarely will he actually hit people with the sharp part of the blade... They have to be some really mean guys for Yoshimune to go that far! The show was frequently topical and touched on many themes of present-day life. The most common subject was political corruption. Drugs, unequal power relationships, poverty, urbanization, the generation gap, inflation, and the tension between Japanese and foreign knowledge were recurring themes. Abarenbo Shogun aired from 1978 thru 2002. In 2003, TV Asahi aired a final episode, ending Matsudaira Ken's 25-year reign.

Yosuke Tomikawa (Tomokazu Miura) is married to Mizuki (Hitomi Kuroki). They have a daughter, Shiori (Atsuko Maeda), and son, Ko (Asuka Kudo). Yosuke works as the general manager in the personnel department at a large company. His wife works as a teacher at a private middle school. Their daughter works as a jewelry maker and their son is looking for a job. The family appears to look like a peaceful family, but, due to an accidental opportunity, the family begins to collapse.
