Zhang Ying Xue is a single mother with custody of her child and is working as a nurse in a hospital. She meets Liu Jia Cheng, the Dean at the wedding of her sister, Xiao Jun, and Jia Cheng’s younger brother, Jia You. Ying Xue’s former mother-in-law had to return to her grandson and make a big wedding. As a result, Jia Cheng’s mother, Zhu Zhu, was dissatisfied with Ying Xue’s family. How the lives of these four people are affected by their family opposition, financial difficulties and re-appearance of Ying Xue's ex-husband form the crux of the story.

Pop singer Otsuka Ai made her acting debut in June 2005 with the drama series Tokyo Friends. Released only on DVD, the five-episode urban drama about four young women was a huge hit despite never being broadcast on television. The series was so popular, a feature film based on the drama was released a year later. In addition to Otsuki Ai, the fresh cast includes Kobayashi Mao, Makimura Yoko, Matsumuto Rio, Eita, Kitamura Ikki, and Sato Ryuta. Small-town girl Rei (Otsuka Ai) moves to the big city to pursue her dreams. In Tokyo, she finds work at a pub and befriends the three other girls who work there, art student Maki (Kobayashi Mao), opportunistic Ryoko (Makimura Yoko), and aspiring actress Hirono (Matsumoto Rio). Their pub's name is Yume no Kura, or "Dream Warehouse", and indeed each girl is in search of her dreams. Rei joins the band Sakaban and must work hard for their big debut. Ryoko lives life freely, but her laid-back attitude hides a deeper story. Unsure of her goals, Maki begins to question her love for art, while Hirono joins a theater troupe run by her high school crush. Through the tears and laughter, the four friends stick it out together on the bumpy road toward their dreams.

The story is centred around an uneducated street urchin Wei Xiao Bao, who was born and raised in a brothel by his mother. Through a series of misadventures, he managed to make his way from the southern playground of Yangzhou to Beijing, the seat of Manchurian imperial power and bumbling accidentally into a fateful encounter with young Kang Xi Emperor. By hook or by crook, but also through a genuine concern and fierce loyalty towards Kangxi, Wei Xiao Bao found himself in the greatest of confidences and a complicated friendship of one of the most eminent monarchs of Chinese history. The plot follows Wei on a rags-to-riches journey as he becomes embroiled in political and court intrigues, overcoming enemies for Kang Xi and accomplishing amazing achievements. Along the way, Wei meets with and successfully woos seven beautiful women, climbs his way up the social ladder from brothel boy to great lord and nobleman, acquiring titles such as Imperial Emissary and Plenipotentiary, Ambassador, general and admiral - courtesy of Kang Xi - as well as finding himself in positions completely at odds with the above: Green-Wood Lodge Master of the Heaven and Earth Society, and White Dragon Marshal of the Mystic Dragon Cult. In the end, however, Wei Xiao Bao could not reconcile his two separate lives - as an anti-Qing rebel and Kang Xi's devoted courtier. He chose to offer up his own life- in return for Kang Xi's munificence towards him and also as an honourable way out of the Heaven and Earth Society. Pained and aggrieved beyond words, Kang Xi orders the execution of his one and only true friend. Afterwards, plagued by loss and guilt, Kang Xi took a long walk along the Great Wall, asking heaven for guidance - only to be happily surprised by the appearance of Wei Xiao Bao, who didn't die after all. After saving his mate's life once again, Wei bades goodbye to Kang Xi, reaffirming their friendship which will, from that point onwards, remain only in the minds and memories of the two men.

Jin Yan Xi, a young man from an influential family, falls in love with a girl called Leng Qing Qiu, who comes from a poor background. They continue to date even though the difference in their respective social statuses prevents them from being together. Bai Xiu Zhu, a girl from another affluent family, also falls in love with Yan Xi, who rejects her and goes on to marry Qing Qiu. However, Yan Xi's restlessness, spoiled personality and boredom of life after marriage prompts him to have an extramarital affair with Xiu Zhu. He eventually breaks up with Qing Qiu and leaves her and his newborn son so that he can accompany Xiu Zhu to Germany. When the house where Qing Qiu and his son lived catches fire, Yan Xi thinks that they have died and he collapses in sorrow and regret. However, Qing Qiu and their son actually survived. Yan Xi tries to find Qing Qiu at the train station and imagines himself hugging her. Qing Qiu is actually near him on a southbound train. Yan Xi gives up and boards a train heading in the opposite direction after seeing that there is nothing left for him at home (his family is breaking up since his father had been robbed of his wealth and had died). Former police officer Terahara Ken (Omori Nao) works for a private security firm. He is suddenly summoned back to Japan while on duty in Taiwan and ordered to protect Matsuoka Takanori (Takeda Tetsuya), the secretary general of the Democratic Party. On the other hand, public prosecutor Sakurai Satoko (Kuroki Hitomi), who was transferred to the Kochi District Public Prosecutors Office for a previous whistle-blowing incident, returns to the Special Investigation Department of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office in a reshuffle by her former superior for the purpose of indicting a big shot. In the midst of this, a branch office of Tokyo’s Aoba Shinkin Bank is blown up and the bank’s armoured truck is attacked. The bomber who has set the events in motion is a young man called Aoyagi Tomoya (Seto Koji). This incident creates a link between Terahara, Matsuoka, Satoko and Ishikawa Aki (Tanaka Rena) who works at Aoba Shinkin Bank. After that, this link unexpectedly starts to extend to include Takashima Shoichi (Tamayama Tetsuji), a Hokkaido junior high school teacher; Kawamoto Rie (Mimura), a Tokyo nurse; Sawada Tsutomu (Tanaka Naoki), an Osaka apparel company employee; and Sean (Ayano Go), an IT company president.

Seven good buddies left school and stepped into society. Each then finds life out there not as carefree as it used to be. Their courage, optimism and confidence are also worn off slowly by the cunning reality. After a series of hurdles, they get a deeper understanding of their friendship and treasure it even more.
