Leung Tsan (Yuen Biao), a cook and a disciple of Wing Chun Master, Wong Wah Po (Yuen Wah), just wants to earn enough money to marry his sweetheart, Cheung Kin Hei (Maggie Siu). Just when his dream becomes possible, he becomes a suspect in the murder of a Manchu martial arts expert when he flees the scene with Ping Yi (Charmaine Li) whom he accidentally met. His master sends him to his classmate, Leung Yee Tai (Bryan Leung), in Foshan for safety. Determined to return to marry his fiancee, he begins his own investigation into the murder. His investigations lead Tsan to Mr. Chan's businesses and he tries to find work there. He becomes a cook for the Chan family and is shocked to find Cheung Kin Hei there, married. Misunderstandings arise. Tsan continues to investigate. Tai, an official, befriends him and tries to keep Tsan clear of the case. A beautiful Manchu princess (Selena Li) meets Tsan and after a series of misadventures, decides she wants a closer acquaintance with him.

The series revolved around a lawyer Francis Siu Wai Mo (Carol/Do Do Cheng Yu Ling) and her paralegal advisor Yu Lok Tin (Dayo Wong). Between avoiding the "spinster" label and creatively fighting trivial law suits, Frances uses her wit and class to outsmart her main rival, lawyer Alex Pao. In addition, Francis also has personal problems to deal with in the homefront such as getting used to her new younger stepmother.

Bai Xiu Zhu, a girl from another affluent family, also falls in love with Yan Xi, who rejects her and goes on to marry Qing Qiu. However, Yan Xi's restlessness, spoiled personality and boredom of life after marriage prompts him to have an extramarital affair with Xiu Zhu. He eventually breaks up with Qing Qiu and leaves her and his newborn son so that he can accompany Xiu Zhu to Germany. When the house where Qing Qiu and his son lived catches fire, Yan Xi thinks that they have died and he collapses in sorrow and regret. However, Qing Qiu and their son actually survived. Yan Xi tries to find Qing Qiu at the train station and imagines himself hugging her. Qing Qiu is actually near him on a southbound train. Yan Xi gives up and boards a train heading in the opposite direction after seeing that there is nothing left for him at home (his family is breaking up since his father had been robbed of his wealth and had died).
