The story revolves almost entirely around the figure of Li Shimin, the future Taizong Emperor of the Tang. Li is represented as the perfect ruler: his sense of morality and righteous conduct are unsullied. Set in a small restaurant in the corner of a shopping district. The unusual eatery is only open after midnight, and its standard menu consists of just a single choice. However, the customers still come for the amusing chatter and the proprietor's willingness to cook any dish that they request. This drama depicts the lives of the restaurant's patrons, including a yakuza, an unsuccessful actor, a group of office ladies, a newspaper delivery boy, and a stripper.

Rushing along the road every day with a vibrant mix of passengers of all kinds, what taxi drivers see and hear is far more varied than one can ever imagine. Retired taxi driver HO KAU (Kent Cheng) returns to the job after his son HO KA-PO (Raymond Wong) is convicted of causing death by dangerous driving. The incident has exacerbated the already fractious relationship between the father and the son. PO works for KAU after his release from prison. Before long, he has another serious road accident, in which KAU is also involved and severely injured, both mentally and physically. PO feels so guilty towards his father and comes to understand the importance of careful driving. He maintains a high degree of vigilance while driving but still gets picked on constantly by female traffic police officer KO LAI-SAM (Kate Tsui). Dong-Joo (Lee Dong-Geon) and Ki-Tae (Seong-su Kim) are both abandoned by parents and brought up in an orphanage as best friends. The friendship of the 3 people starts as Ji-Soo (Kim Ha-Neul) is transferred to Dong-Joo’s and Ki-Tae’s school. Ji-Soo envies the strong friendship between Dong-Joo and Ki-Tae, but starts to grow special feelings towards Dong-ju. One day Dong-ju jumps into the water to find Ji-Soo’s ocarina and he becomes missing since. Ji-Soo and Ki-Tae believes that he is dead. Meanwhile, a Japanese couple discovers Dong-Ju, and takes him back to Japan with them. Ki-Tae naturally takes over Dong-Joo’s place and he and Ji-Soo become lovers. However after twelve years, Dong-Joo comes back as a Japanese gentleman and he manages to find Ki-Tae and Ji-Soo. He is first happy to find his past memories, but as his feelings for Ji-Soo comes back, the friendship between Dong-Joo and Ki-Tae starts to drift apart.
