Tanimachi Mizuho has big dreams of living in Daikanyama and becoming a famous writer. In the middle of the winter, this strong-willed 26-year-old moves to Tokyo from the snowy countryside. Never doubting her ability, she keeps telling herself that if her desire to realize her dreams is strong enough, they will come true. What is waiting for her in Tokyo though, is something altogether different. Morinaga Kenta is an up-and-coming variety program scenario writer. Kenta moved to Tokyo five years ago, and with luck on his side, he became well-known in no time. Kenta and Mizuho are from the same hometown, and were friends growing up, but their friendship never blossomed into anything else. "Hachiko," as Kenta was known as when he was growing up, just goes with the flow and doesn't really have any big aspirations for himself. These two, who aren't having much luck with work or with their love lives, suddenly run into each other one day in Tokyo in the middle of winter. Being 26 is a tough point in life because it's too late to think of new dreams, but on the other hand, it's too late to abandon old ones...

In order to air her grievances towards her elder sister Lady YUE YUET (Sheren Tang), Lady SUN YUEN-SAU (Christine Ng) spreads rumors of YUE YUET in the palace. The ambitious nursing mother SEUNG-LING (Ada Choi) tries to collect evidence against the rumors in exchange for money from others. She naturally becomes a trusted follower and a close friend of Lady YUE very soon. Meanwhile, the arrival of famous actors KO LAU-FEI (Moses Chan) and WAN TSAU-YIN (Kwan Lai Kit) captures the heart of every woman in the palace including the lonely YUEN-SAU. YUE YUET tries to stop YUEN-SAU from committing adultery by playing tricks but this put her into an intricate polygonal relationship with SEUNG-LING and LAU-FEI accidentally. YUEN-SAU tries to fight back by getting help from the fortune-teller TUNG KAT-HOI (Wong Tak Bun). Ichikawa plays the part of Azusa, the only child of the owner of a small female pro wrestling organization. After her father dies of illness, she has to take over the business, which is already losing money and is on the verge of shutting down. To make things worse, their referee suddenly disappears on the day of one of their shows, leaving behind only a resignation letter. The desperate Azusa then runs into a young Korean man (Lee). She persuades him to serve as a referee just for that day, though she doesn’t realize he is actually a popular star in Korea.

Based on the two historical events of "Yichang Retreat" in 1938 and "Shipai War" in 1943, the drama tells the story of the war of resistance that occurred in Yichang from 1938 to 1943.

Akihabara is a Tokyo district full of mangas, anime, electronics, video games, figurines, etc. It is a place that gathers fanatics of such themes, people who are commonly referred to as otaku. Page, Box, Akira, Taiko, Daruma, and Izumu are six otakus, each with his/her own troubles who sought relief through a website called "Yui's Lifeguard". When the site owner, Yui, died of a mysterious death, the six, who are each expert in their own fields, gathered to form "Akihabara@DEEP", a "troubleshooter" group that vows to protect Akihabara and solve the problems of its inhabitants.

Amamiya Kuniyuki is the unemployed son of a tonkatsu restaurant owner. He finds a job that requires a married person, so he lies by saying that he has plans to marry, and he is forced to keep up the charade using Hida Haruno, a part-time worker from the restaurant. The relationship between the two is the key of this romantic comedy, though the series also focuses on family and friendship through Nakai's interactions with the other characters.

Ling Wan is a beautiful young girl who pretends to have an ugly face to prevent marrying. Her friend Chor Chor is not pretty looking either, therefore they became best friends. One day, Ling Wan accidentally saves the Emperor in disguise. He sees Ling Wan's real face and immediately falls in love with her. When he returns to the Imperial Palace, he could not get her off his mind so he sends someone to bring Ling Wan into the palace. Once Chor Chor realizes that Ling Wan's ugly face was fake and that the Emperor was bringing her into the palace she immediately goes find the "face changer", Siu To who she met beforehand in the village. Chor Chor makes Ling Wan unconscious and they switch faces. With now Ling Wan's face, Chor Chor takes her place and goes into the palace. The confused Ling Wan decides to travel to the palace alone to tell the Emperor the truth.
