A Young monk Sanzo Hoshi sets out for India, never forgetting to keep a "believing heart" as he travels together with Son Goku (monkey), Sagojo (water monster) and Chohakkai (Pig), those spirits who are always causing problems. What adventures are awaiting our band of travellers on their way, and will friendship and love prevail in the end?

The drama opens in 1955. Xu Hui Zhen lost her husband not long after their marriage and is now running a little tavern that she inherited. No matter what difficulties come her way, the socialist transformation of capitalist enterprises, the Great Leap Forward, natural disasters, the Cultural Revolution and many more, Hui Zhen remains true to herself and her philosophy of how to manage the tavern. When the economic reforms are eventually introduced, Hui Zhen and her tavern bear the fruits of her hard work and her unchanging belief in her values.

In the 30th century, time travel becomes illegal after a time paradox crisis. The Time Protection Department is established to watch for and stop time crimes. Four new enlistee cadets of the TPD are tricked by Don Dolnero and his gang into letting them time-travel to the year 2000 to commit various crimes. To protect history, the four cadets pursue them. There they encounter a severe problem: the Timeranger program requires five members for the first operation. They thus force a present-day martial artist, Tatsuya Asami, to join them, allowing them to become the Timerangers.

One day she suddenly dies, however, since she’s too worried about her cowardly son, she cannot go to heaven just yet and returns to the world as a ghost. Although she wanted to become a ghost in order to meet her son again, her great skills as a police woman soon make rounds throughout the world of ghosts who now seek her help in order to free them from their regrets. Together with her son, she’s now out to to catch various atrocious criminals in order to settle those old cases. It’s a criminal and human drama in which the characters experience personal growth with each case, mixed with a certain amount of fantasy and comedic elements.
