    Baby 2015
    Genre:
    Drama
    Country:
    Indian
The story follows members of a fictional secret operation called Baby, a temporary task force headed by Feroz Khan (Danny Denzongpa). While attempting to rescue a fellow Indian security agent in Turkey, Ajay Singh Rajput (Akshay Kumar) captures a traitor to the Indian government, Jamal, who formerly worked under Ajay. Ajay captures Jamal and threatens to kill his family unless he gives them information about the terror attack plans on India. He discovers a terrorist plot to cause a bomb blast in a Delhi mall which he and Jai (Rana Daggubati) are able to prevent. In the process they learn that this was only the first in a series of massive attacks that have been planned. Terrorist mastermind Maulana (Naz), who is causing trouble near the Pakistan-India border, arranges for Bilal (Kay Kay Menon) to escape from prison. A team from Baby is dispatched to a local spiritual leader, who is surreptitiously an aide to a terrorist organisation and manage to get information on their local contacts after torturing him. They go to their hideout, but things go wrong and all of the squad members on the mission except Ajay are killed in an explosion. To collect further information from a terrorist logistics planner in Nepal, Ajay and officer Priya (Pannu) travel to Nepal pretending to be husband and wife. Their plan to capture the terrorist Wasim Khan (Sushant Singh) goes wrong when Wasim finds out that Priya is in fact an undercover officer. Priya manages to hold Wasim and Ajay arrives to find that Priya has rendered Khan unconscious. As per the information given by Wasim, Feroz sends Ajay, Jai and Shukla (Anupam Kher) to their deep asset Ashfaq in Saudi Al-Dera where Bilal has meetings scheduled to discuss the funding and execution of their plans. Ajay and Jai crack into Bilal's room with the help of Shukla and manage to kill Bilal. As they are about to return, they find that Maulana is also at the site. Jai knocks him out and they decide to bring Maulana back to India, sedated, under the pretext that he is a relative they need to get to India for a liver transplant. They manage to get a visa from the local authorities for Maulana (being shown as Ashfaq's ill uncle) with Ashfaq's help. Soon after, the hotel security discover the corpse of Bilal. The Arab police authorities put the police chief Hani Mohammad (Hasan Noman) in charge of investigating the crime. He attempts to track down the murderers quickly and eventually succeeds. However, he also learns that the murderers are none other than Indian military agents who are smuggling the infamous leader, Maulana under the pretext of being Ashfaq's uncle. As soon as he learns this, he smiles and lets them escape without any hindrance. For successfully bringing in Maulana, Baby is given permanent status.

Red Medak (Aka Medaka SP) (2016)

    Red Medak (Aka Medaka SP)
    Genre:
    Drama
    Country:
    Thailand
During the unprecedented manzai (two-person comedy act) boom of the mid 1980s, Sasaki Nobuyuki (Ninomiya Kazunari), later Danshun, meets the rakugo (traditional Japanese comic storytelling) storyteller Tatekawa Danshi (Beat Takeshi) at a junior high school performing arts appreciation festival. Several years after this electrifying encounter, Nobuyuki, who is now a high school student, knocks on the door of the Tatekawa school for the purpose of becoming Danshi’s disciple. Danshi sternly tells him to bring his parents if he wants to quit school and become his disciple. The Tatekawa school does not allow a person to be a disciple without the support of parents. Nobuyuki tries to persuade his parents, but he is told by his father (Terajima Susumu), “At the very least, finish high school.” He breaks off with his father and leaves home. The next day, Nobuyuki visits Danshi and lies that both parents met a freak accident and died. He begs Danshi to make him a disciple. He will live in a newspaper stand and earn money by working part-time. This spurs Danshi to give Nobuyuki the name “Danshun”, and he gains admission into the Tatekawa school. Dandan (Kitamura Yukiya), Kansai (Miyagawa Daisuke) and Danboru (Arai Hirofumi) are Danshi’s senior disciples. Danshun does the household chores and other unreasonable demands instructed by Danshi together with them every day. He wonders if this is training and why Danshi does not give them lessons in rakugo. One day, he is told by a senior disciple Shinosuke (Kagawa Teruyuki), “If you don’t like it, become a futatsume quickly”. The ranks of a rakugo storyteller are minarai, zenza, futatsume and shinuchi. He will finally be recognised as a rakugo storyteller and be able to hold rakugo performances freely after he becomes a futatsume. At the Tatekawa school, if a disciple can remember 50 rakugo classics and convincingly perform the material selected from among these by the head of the school on the spot, he will be able to advance to the rank of futatsume regardless of the number of years he has been training. Shinosuke achieved this within one and a half years of becoming a disciple and is now a futatsume. Danshun finally sees what he should do and memorises material without sparing time for sleep. About half a year passes. Danshun finally gains his parents’ approval and is able to get minimal living expenses. He quits his part-time job at the newspaper stand, gains Danshi’s favour and develops steadily. But one day, when Danshi says he will give him lessons, Danshun, who has caught a cold, declines because his thought is that he must not cause trouble for his master. This displeases Danshi and after that, he never offers to give lessons again. Danshun is told to work at Tsukiji for one year if he wants to continue as Danshi’s disciple. The word of the master is law in the world of rakugo. Danshun has no choice but to help out and sell siew mai at Tsukiji. However, he hears from Shinosuke that there is a disciple who refused this “Tsukiji training” and goes to complain about this disciple Shiraku (Hamada Gaku).

Gong Tau: An Oriental Black Magic (2007)

Gong Tau: An Oriental Black Magic
    Genre:
    Horror, Supernatural, Crime
    Country:
    Hong Kong
Gong Tau takes the audience back to an earlier time, when Hong Kong movies were gory, twisted, and enormously entertaining guilty pleasures. Mark Cheng (Election 2) stars in this Category III shocker as Rockman, a chiseled cop whose latest case may be the death of him. When a series of brutal cop killings occur, all signs point to Lam Chiu (Kenny Wong), a nasty perp who once took a bullet to the head from Rockman, and can no longer feel any pain. However, the deaths all carry signs of dark eastern mysticism, and when Rockman's wife (Maggie Siu) becomes afflicted with unexplainable pain AND his infant son suddenly - and shockingly - dies in his home, Rockman knows something is up. His veteran partner Fat (Lam Suet) has the answer: "It's Gong Tau." Bearing the same Chinese-language title as the 1975 Shaw Brothers shocker Black Magic, Gong Tau is a return of one of Hong Kong's more unique movie genres. Director Herman Yau, auteur of the Category III classics The Untold Story and Ebola Syndrome, has plenty of fun with this shocking, sometimes darkly funny exercise in cinema excess. Over-the-top gore effects and images abound in Gong Tau. This film has it all: sex, revenge, brutal violence, twisted black magic, copious bodily fluids, and even a severed flying head complete with attached spinal cord! Not for the squeamish or faint of heart, Gong Tau is the perfect antidote to Hong Kong Cinema's recent run of popstar vehicles, and a good bet for anyone looking for a little midnight movie madness.
