Portrays three people as they live on the islands of Lake Toya in Hokkaido, Hachijojima in Tokyo, and Dojima in Osaka. Maki lives near Lake Toya, and has lived as a "woman" ever since her daughter passed away. Meanwhile, Makoto is a cattle herder living on Hachijojima who is confounded when his daughter comes home pregnant. And, Reiko visits her hometown of Dojima for the funeral of her former boyfriend.

Mishima Kiko was exploited by her own family. When she was little, her mother neglected her. Sakai Masato stars as Major Mashiba, an intelligence officer with Japan's Imperial Guard. Together with First Lieutenant Koizumi (Fukushi Seiji) and Master Sergeant Mochizuki (Nakamura Shido), Mashiba attempts to execute secret orders to hide the treasures from the occupying forces of Douglas MacArthur in the hopes of funding the nation's reconstruction at some point in the future.
