In the early days of the Republic, legendary martial artist Ye Ruzhou suffers a severe injury, losing her memory and winding up in the impoverished alley of Minfu Lane. By a twist of fate, she crosses paths with the carefree Chen Awang, and the two fall for each other. When local tyrant Zheng Juehou intensifies his hold over the neighborhood, Ye Ruzhou rises to defend her new community. University student Xiang meets police officer Vic on the basketball court. They quickly fall in love. Vic takes Xiang out of school and introduces him to his aunt, who supports Vic’s coming out. But it isn’t long before differences show between the two. Vic objects Xiang attending protests with his friends, and Xiang thinks Vic doesn’t understand him. The distance between the two grows. One night when Xiang is out protesting, Vic receives a phone call from his boss to go to the protest grounds as backup. The streets are overrun with the raucous crowd, and the police is holding their line. The two are yelling at each other, but they cannot hear what each other are really saying…

Even more confounding, after waiting for hours at the store, nobody comes forward to claim the baby. And to top everything off, theres a note on the baby which claims Joon-soo is the father!At first, Joon-Soo devises varies ways to abandon the child, but every time is spoiled by an unexpected event. When his teacher calls to warn him that he will be expelled if he misses another day, Joon-soo decides to bring the baby to school. This causes further scandal for Joon-Soo and eventually leads to his suspension. Through all this, Joon-Soo finds himself slowly becoming attached to the baby.

What would a Taiwanese Woody Allen movie look like? Probably something on the order of Yang’s panoramic satire of life in the material world of 1990s Taipei, the skyline choked by smog and the neon signs of globally branded corporations. With his rapier wit, Yang observes the self-absorption of a gaggle of twenty-something urbanites, including “culture company” impresario Molly (Ni Shujun), her wealthy fiancée (who fears Molly may be cheating on him), her talk-show-host sister, and the sister’s estranged husband, a novelist whose latest book imagines a reincarnated Confucius returning—with considerable horror—to a modern society ostensibly built upon his teachings. Though it signaled a shift in tone from his earlier, more dramatic films, A Confucion Confusion finds Yang once again searching for the soul of a country he no longer quite recognizes.

Set some time after the original 'Heroic Trio' the city has been devastated by nuclear attack. An evil deformed villain controls the city's scarce water supply, exerting influence over both a popular leader and a militarist colonel.
