The sublime opening sequence of Dust in the Wind follows a nearly imperceptible diffused white speck - perhaps the referential "dust" of the film's evocative title - as it momentarily shifts location near the center of the frame then continues on its inexorable course, gradually converging to reveal a light at the end of a tunnel from onboard a lumbering passenger train. It is an indelible metaphor for what would prove to be the bittersweet experience of first love in the lives of the two high school students commuting on the train: a pensive and diligent young man named Wan (Wang Jingwen) and his reticent, devoted girlfriend Huen (Xin Shufen). Faced with limited opportunity for his academic competency beyond handwriting dictated letters for illiterate neighbors in the bucolic peasant village (a seemingly inescapable reality reinforced by his father's comment, "If you want to be a cow, there will always be a plow for you."wink.gif, Wan decides to forgo his senior high school education and move to Taipei. Finding work as a printing press operator at a modest, family-run shop during the day - a job that was only made palatable by his unlimited opportunity to read the assortment of literature being published while typesetting - Wan is determined to further his education by attending evening classes, and strives to forge a career beyond the socio-economic sphere of his provincial coal mining hometown (where a night of carousing for the miners invariably ends up in a comic display of masculine competition involving the displacement of large rocks onto the street). After graduation, the less scholarly Huen follows Wan to Taipei and obtains a respectable job as a seamstress at a dressmaking shop that includes room and board, allowing her to occasionally send money home to her family. The film then follows the plight of the young couple as they drift through the waning days of adolescence between their humble work lives in Taipei and periodic visits to their hometown, reluctantly awaiting Wan's inevitable military conscription with the reassurring knowledge that they will be able to marry after completing his compulsory service.

Ji Eun has a bad impression of men due to bad experiences with her father but her mom Hyeon Ah convinces her into getting tuition from an art student. Jeong Woo is surprised at how cold she is towards him but at the same time, there's tension between the two. Meanwhile, Hyeon Ah, who is afraid something might happen between the two, calls Jeong Woo in and suggests something but he confesses his love for Hyeon Ah instead. They have fallen into an inappropriate relationship and Ji Eun decides to give her mom a surprise.

He is asked to cancel his Lunar New Year holiday for a "simple" mission, which infuriates him. Sang Jin is a music teacher at an Arts High School in the small city of Gimcheon. He was once a promising opera singer in Italy, but a tumor in his throat ended his singing career. On a weekend, Sang Jin drives out to the Gimcheon Arts High School from his home in nearby Daegu City to meet with the principle and a new transfer student. Before getting to the school, Sang Jin pulls into the parking lot of a highway rest stop area. While parking his car, he scratches a black car parked next to him. Three men get out of the parked black car and threaten Sang Jin. Then a young teen named Jang Ho slowly steps out of the car. Sang Jin becomes frightened out of his wits, but the young teen Jang Ho ignores him and walks straight to his old beat up car. He peers inside the music teacher's car and listens to the opera music playing out of the teacher's car stereo. Jang Ho then orders his three men to get the man's driver's license and then let him go.

Later at the principle's office, Sang Jin complains to Principle Deok Saeng about the new transfer student's transcripts. Sang Jin tells him that the guy must be a troublemaker if this is his 4th high school, but Principle Deok Saeng assures Sang Jin that the new transfer student is talented and he could help the school win at an upcoming music competition.

Then, the door to the principle's office opens and the new transfer student walks in. Their new transfer student is Jang Ho, whom Sang Jin already met in the parking lot at the rest stop area. Jang Ho is an enforcer for a powerful mafia group in Daegu City, but all he really wants to do is sing.

"Hot Young Bloods" is set within the early 1980's in Heongseong, South Korea. The movie depicts the rivalries, friendships and secret crushes held by students at a high school in Heongseong. Young-Sook (Park Bo-Young) is the feared leader of a female gang at the high school. Although she is known for her toughness, she has a secret crush on Joong-Gil (Lee Jong-Suk). Meanwhile, Joong-Gil is the school's playboy. He attempts to woo all the girls at his high school except for Young-Sook. That's because Gwang-Sik (Kim Young-Kwang), the feared leader of a rival school's male gang, views Young-Sook as his woman. A new female transfer student (Lee Se-Young) from Seoul arrives at their high school. She's different from the other girls and beautiful.
