The 79th NHK Asadora is Dandan, a story about twin girls Megumi and Nozomi who had been separated at birth by their parent's divorce, but meet unexpectedly and discover their tight bonding. Together they decide to seek their career in singing. Tajima Megumi is an active high school girl in Shimane prefecture who loves to sing in a band on the streets. Ichijo Nozomi is a maiko - an apprentice geisha raised strictly by her geisha mother in Kyoto. The two girls meet by coincidence one day, and realize they had been brought to each other by a powerful fate because of their striking resemblance. Locations include Shimane and Kyoto. Dandan means "thank you" in the Izumo dialect.

Day and Min fell in love despite their social difference. Soon, they were engaged to be married. However, their happy union was shattered when he discovered that her philanthropic father was the driver who killed his mother in a hit and run years ago and the cause of his father's suicide on their wedding day. The devastated Day chose to disappear rather than exposing the crime committed by Min's father. When he resurfaced years later Min had to choose either moving on with her life as he did with his or fighting for his forgiveness and saving their love.

Kurata Sui is a 30-year-old man, who is honest and kind to people. He first went on an airplane when he was middle school student. After that, he has always wanted to become an airplane pilot. Finally, after going through rigorous training, he has been promoted as the first officer for an airline. One day, as the first officer of the flight, he experiences a difficult time because of bad weather. Due to the excellent work of a female air traffic controller, Kurata Sui and the captain are able to land the plane safely at Haneda Airport. Since then, even though he doesn't know her name or what she looks like, Kurata Sui has fallen in love with the air traffic controller just by listening to her voice.

The female air traffic controller, who Kurata Sui is in love with, is Shibuya Mayu. As an air traffic controller, she has the skills to respond quickly to emergency situations with a cool and calm, but precise manner. Although she excels in her job as an air traffic controller, her social skills are not nearly as good. She has difficulty with expressing her feelings to others and does not feel comfortable hanging out with others. Suddenly, Kurata Sui appears in front of her and approaches her.

The story takes place during the reign of Hong Taiji, the founder of Qing dynasty. He formed military alliances by marrying the daughters of Mongol and Manchu clans. He first married Jerger of Khorchin Mongols and made her his primary wife. Then, he renewed their alliance by marrying her niece Dayu'er. However, it was Dayu’ers low status half-sister, Harjol, he favored above the rest. His favoritism caused a rift between the women. Dayu'er formed a secret alliance with his brother Dorgon to place her son on the throne over his elder sons and brothers.

Kanda is a producer of a popular quiz program. When he wakes up, he finds himself wearing a mysterious necklace and there a lot of business cards scattered on the floor. His daughter daughter is there and wearing the same necklace. Kanda and his daughter are locked up in a secret room.

Mysterious man X (Masaki Okada) appears in front of Kanda. X suggests to him the “Meishi Game” ("Business Card Game") with a 2 hour time limit. The rule of the game is for Kanda to find the business cards he received and return them to the owner of the business, but, if Kanda makes a mistake, his daughter will blow up. Kanda accepts the challenge to save his daughter and there is also a hidden secret.

Ko Tin-po (Wong Cho Lam) has tasted many delicacies since he was young. He can easily distinguish between good and bad dishes. Unfortunately, his family’s financial woes have left him and his servant Li Wei (Jack Wu) homeless. They resort to selling buns for a living. Consequently, they meet a street performer Kei Mo-suet(Joey Meng), the city’s most beautiful lady Nin Yeuk-bik (Nancy Wu) and a young chef Mai Siu-yu (Stephanie Ho). By chance, Tin-po also comes across the Fourth Imperial Prince Yin-zhen (Ben Wong), whom he instantly gets along with. Tin-po is invited to be a chef in the palace, where he encounters his greatest rival Choi Hok-ting (Bob Lam). He is unexpectedly brought into the royal succession battle started by the Eigth Imperial Prince Yin-si (Louis Cheung). Tin-po turns out to be Yin-zhen's lucky star, helping Yin-zhen defeat Yin-si time and time again. However, an accidental marriage contract quickly changes his circumstances...

The young Cheng Shao Shang was left behind because her parents had gone off to fight in the war.
