The “Death Investigation Extension (D.I.E.)” in the police force was established to accommodate those who have been sent away by their supervisors. As everybody knows, members of the Extension are to investigate unsolved cold cases. YUE CHI-LONG (Roger Kwok), who has cracked a large number of difficult cases by extrasensory means, is assigned to the D.I.E. believing that he will get promoted soon. Later LONG finds out that his supervisor still has a long way to go before he reaches retirement age. Hoping to leave the Extension as soon as possible, he gets to solve a lot of intriguing cases. New appointee YING CHING-CHING (Sonija Kwok) is a good-looking girl but she means to act tough and sassy in front of others. She takes an uncompromising stand over every case she deals with, which leads her into constant quarrels with LONG. The relationship between the pair is deteriorating day after day. LONG’s elder sister, YUE CHI-CHING (Margie Tsang), has been living with him. While investigating an old case, LONG gets to find his long-lost father YUE TAI-HOI (Bryan Leung). Through close collaboration with LONG, CHING-CHING has gradually developed affection for him. As she is still torn between LONG and her two-timing boyfriend SHING KA-TSUN (Kenneth Ma), LONG has started to try to avoid her without rhyme or reason. Jingbirok, the name of a book written by real-life Joseon historian and scholar Ryu Seong Ryong, detailing the Imjin War (1592-1598). The drama will be a telling of historical events with the scholar as the central character, in the same vein as "Jeong Do Jeon" (who influenced the founding of the Joseon dynasty). Ryu Seong Ryong was an official who served during King Seonjo’s reign in the late 16th century. He was a brilliant Confucian scholar who was put in charge of military operations during the Imjin War, and greatly influenced Admiral Lee Soon Shin.

Deokman was born a twin but was abandoned as a baby and sent to a place far away by her father, King Jinpyeong in order to protect her from being killed by an influenced royal court lady, Mishil who tries to snatch away the throne from the royal successor. Michinari Shiga works as a deputy editor for weekly magazine Shukan Jiryu. The magazine has seen a rise in its sales by breaking numerous scandals. Michinari Shiga lives his life faithfully as a journalist, but his life suddenly changes. His son, who attends a university, kills someone he has stalked and then kills himself. Instead of chasing after scandals, Michinari Shiga now finds himself the target of other journalists. He is also demoted to another magazine and his relationship with his wife deteriorates. He falls into a desperate situation, but he approaches the truth behind his son's case.
