1969, Korea... Ten-year old Young-rae lives alone with his mother in the countryside. Life is difficult for them and his mother is forced to sell illegally imported cosmetics on the street. But Young-rae is plucky and can stand up to anything including defending his mother — anything except when other kids call him names for being "fatherless." So when he hears that the father he had only dreamed of is alive and living in Seoul, he makes it his life goal to get to city and find him. The only way to get there, however, is a long and expensive train ride. To raise money, Young-rae starts to sell ice cream bars. As his goal nears, will his dream come true?

Now, they are high school students and they meet again on Kaidan Island. They get involved in various cases. Movie is based on Kono Yutaka's novel about two childhood friends in a remote island – an island for discarded people.

Tatsuya Nikaido is a middle-aged divorcee who runs an agricultural company and lives in a suburb with his daughter and mother. After his only son's death, he has been pressured by his fate to save his family name and ancestral line as a only male in the family. Tatsuya's daughter Yuko can't help feeling responsible for her family's survival despite her resistance against the traditional mind. The only options left to them to save their family name is either that Tatsuya remarry and have a son, or Yuko marry a man who can take her family's surname as a mukoyoshi (adopted son-in-law) of her father. But they both in love with someone who is not suited for the condition. Tatsuya and Yuko struggle caught in the dilemma between their family obligation and love. Meanwhile, despaired Tatsuya's sickly mother indirectly takes actions for the family survival, which causes increasing tensions around Tatsuya and Yuko.

Jing is a teenager who starts dating Eiam, a woman who is 20 years older than him. Things go well at the beginning of their relationship because of their optimistic attitude and strong efforts to adjust to each other's lifestyles. However, when Eiam turns 40 and Jing starts to mature, the couple increasingly experiences conflicts and arguments. Things get even more complicated when Jing becomes attracted to a younger woman.

The story is about Seo Joon, who loses everything to voice phishing and infiltrates the organization in China to meet Kwak Pro, the designer behind this system.

Nhum is a construction foreman working in Bangkok. The political instability in Thailand has made its presence felt in all business sectors. Nhum suddenly finds himself out of jobs. He decides to leave Bangkok to go back to his hometown in the northeast of Thailand to attend his high school friend’s wedding during the Thai New Year in April -- which also happens to be the hottest month of the year.

Nhum reunites with his old friends at the wedding in Khon Kaen. He also runs into Joy, a senior from his high school whom he used to have a crush on, and is now an office woman. They exchange their phone numbers.

Suddenly, the film turns into another direction. Some interview footage of the director’s father and brother is included, and we learn that the film is a semi-autobiography of the director’s life. The character of Nuhm is, nonetheless, as much a construct as it is real. From this point on, the film becomes the voyage of a young man into the labyrinths of the real and the imagined, the documentary and the fiction, the past and the present – and not only of his self but also of the Thai society writ large.
