Natsuki Morishita (Shokichi) suddenly lost his parents when he was young. After that, he lived at his relative’s home, but he wasn't happy living there and he ran away. Natsuki then lived on the streets of the big city. Through a lot of struggles, Natsuki is finally able to open a small store. His childhood friend Wataru Okajima (Naoto) then appears in front of him. Natsuki Morishita and Wataru Okajima get swept up by friendship, betrayal and desires.

The series follows the adventures of the fugitive Straw Hat Pirates, as they explore the dangerous oceans, lands and beyond in search of the "One Piece", a fabled treasure that will make their captain The King of the Pirates. But, the Navy is on their ship's tail and they are not the only crew searching for the One Piece. Armed with skills and unbreakable friendship, the Straw Hats are ready for the journey and even more ready to fight for their dreams together.

Set during the late Meiji era to post-World War II period at Osaka, featuring the lead character Fujioka Ten who is modeled after Yoshimoto Sei, the founder of Yoshimoto Kogyo and a female comedy show promoter. Ten is born into a family managing a drug wholesale business in Kyoto and meets Kitamura Tōkichi who is the son of a family in the rice dealing business. When they fall in love, Ten goes against her parents' wishes to marry Tokichi who is a big lover of comedy. Ten unwittingly becomes the manager of a vaudeville theater with her husband, and eventually becomes the first woman in Japan to make comedy into a business, transforming Osaka into a capital of comedy.

Kimhan and Mookarin were engaged to be married but a tragedy destroyed their happiness. Mon, Kimhan's sister, was found dead and her husband Tada, Mook's brother, was accused of killing her.

The case went to court and Tada was acquitted with Mook taking the stand as her brother's alibi and Mon's death was ruled an accident. Kimhan was furious that his sister's killer walked free and that Mook lied to help acquit her brother.

If the law could not punish Tada, Kimhan will do it himself, so he vowed to get revenge. He actively persecuted Tada and broke off his engagement to Mook. In pursuing his revenge, he caused a lot of pain to Tada, Mook and other innocent people.

Yet, through it all, neither Kimhan nor Mook could forget their love for each other. They were filled with conflicting feelings of love, hate, revenge and loyalty as they, and the people around them, get caught in Kimhan's whirlpool of revenge.

The 49th NHK Taiga drama is Ryoma den, set back in the Bakumatsu period. The story focuses on the life of Sakamoto Ryoma, who lived from 1835 to 1867. He was an important leader in the movement to overthrow the Tokugawa Bakufu, eventually bringing about the Meiji Restoration. He was also one of the founders of modern day Japanese navy through incorporation of western technology, which proved to be a force to be reckoned with during the revolution.

Yonekura Ryoko plays Matsudaira Matsuko, a tax investigator from the countryside who is suddenly called to work at the Tokyo Tax Investigation Bureau. Her rather unorthodox methods of investigating tax evaders shocks the rest of the staff, despite being rather efficient.
