One man is out for revenge after a life-altering event destroys his family. After years of preparation he seeks out his justice, while unaware of their relation, on his brother. As these two brothers seek to destroy each other certain memories are triggered and although many trusted allies will be dishonest and misleading neither one will stop until they know the truth.

As the film begins, Takao (Akira Terao) and Michiko (Kanako Higuchi) have already pulled up their Tokyo roots and moved to a village that is Takao's ancestral home. They visit a thatched cottage that serves as a memorial shrine (amidado) for the village dead and chat with the attendant, the spry 96-year-old Oume (Tanie Kitabayashi). Together they admire the view -- from an inspiring distance. Oume, it turns out, is a kind of sage, whose thoughts and observations are a popular feature in a column in a local newsletter. Her amanuensis is a mute, sweetly smiling young woman named Sayuri (Manami Konishi), who is as devoted to Oume as Oume is to the souls of her beloved dead.

The story was set in Ancient China before it's unification, during which countless kingdoms battle for supremacy. Yen Feier (played by Kelly Chen) is thrust on the throne when her father is killed in a battle. Feier and her loyal Murong Xuehu (played by Donnie Yen) unite to defend the kingdom. Feier falls in love with Duan who offers her another life. With the fate of her kingdom in the balance, Feier must choose between her duty and her dreams.

Hung Hei Kwun, a kungfu student of Shaolin, is against the Manchu rulers. Later, Chishan found a map to a treasure trove but contents were tattooed on the backs of his five young master. Chen Yao Wen, a Manchu official, soon found out about the map and attacked Shaolin. Shaolin was destroyed, but the four masters managed to escape and were instructed to team up with Hing and Hei Kwun....
