The film begins with a pair of twin sisters named XiaoHong and XiaoQing.They have two totally different personalities. XiaoQing believes in true love. By contrast, her elder sister XiaoHong only trusts money. XiaoQing is about to get married with her boyfriend of 10 years,Jiang Cheng. She had been working very hard to save money to buy her own house. But Jiang Cheng not only hung around everyday, but was also cheated and lent all of XiaoQing's saving to an unreliable friend. XiaoQing was too angry to leave Jiang Cheng and felt desperate to keep their love alive. She applied for many credit cards and dressed herself like a high-class lady so that she could get a rich man to marry her. A young woman named Future is sent from the year 2046 to the year 2011 in Hong Kong. Future was sent by the United Nations in order to get pregnant, where she can then extract her genes and repopulate the earth as 99% of males have become infertile in the future due to attacks from Planet Xucker. Two assassins from Xucker are sent after her to stop her. Future meets three University students: Felix, Dan and Sing. The men are obsessed with female students next door: Chin Chin. The students agree to help Future find a mate at the university.

Made as World War II wore on, This Happy Life is pure wartime propaganda, but of an unusual sort. There's little, if any, militarist feeling expressed - although the most sympathetic character preaches the joys of German cuisine. Rather, the film's mission is to instruct the home front, in great detail, on how to make do with the odd scraps of food and supplies available, and to demonstrate in various ways that people can be happy no matter what straitened circumstances they find themselves in

One day, on a trip to Shanghai with her boss, Joy meets Thai traveller Ricky at an antiques shop. Ricky sells largely counterfeit antiques to the rich and is in debt to many. The two fight over a pair of strange statues at the shop. When Ricky gets the prize back to his room, he accidentally breaks it and discovers that hidden inside is a piece of an old treasure map. For the two adventurers, a hunt for unknown treasure begins.
