A couple decides to adopt a child to overcome the loss of their third child whom they lost to an accident. They adopt a boy who is visually impaired, hoping that raising him would make up for the insufficient love they gave to their lost child. The adopted boy has an acute sense and begins to notice that there is another presence in the house. He discovers that the presence is a boy who died a year ago and summons him back to the family. The mother gets obsessed with communication with her lost child. The father and the other children believe the adopted boy is lying, and start to fear the mother's growing obsession toward her lost child and the adopted boy. The children feel compelled to tell their parents about the secret about the lost child, which changes everything for the family.

Madarame Baku is a mysterious gambler. His nickname is Usogui (literally The Lie Eater). Club Kakerou is the top illegal gambling den, where gamblers vie to become the best in their profession. Seeing through the lies of others, Madarame Baku challenges a variety of high stakes games at Club Kakerou.

The story tells of a Japanese businessman, who is sent to assess some gems in a remote Chinese village, and a member of the yakuza, who is accompanying him to make sure his organization gets its proper share. The scenery of China is something not usually explored in Japanese film and thus was a massive change of pace for Miike, and a far cry from the recurrent themes of violence and sexuality present in his other films. Chinese locations in the movie include Dali City, Yunnan, the city characters enter through a stone arched gate and the Nujiang River, where they see people riding pulleys on steel cables over the water.

A sequel to the entertaining "Operation Pink Squad" (1988) that throws a heavy dose of comedy and horror into the mix. The Pink Squad (Sandra Ng, Anne Bridgewater, and some other Asian beauty) get assigned to go undercover as Japanese hostesses in order to break up a counterfeiting ring led by Shing Fui On. They are also aided by the Captain's niece, played with exuberance by a very young and extremely cute Cheung Man, who ends up stealing the show (at least for me). Sandra and Billy Lau are now married, and Billy is convinced that his wife is having an affair with the police Captain (typecast Wu Fong) as the result of some silly miscommunication. He spends the first half of the film devising fiendishly amusing ways to punish the adulterers, and even fantasizes that he's Chow Yun-Fat from "The Killer" (1989) at one point. During the sting operation, the girls' new headquarters are in a haunted apartment that Buddhist monk Yuen Chueng Yan is in the process of exorcising. One of the ghosts manages to get away and wreaks all sorts of havoc on all the main characters. After numerous mishaps, our heroes finally manage to cut off the ghost's head, which just makes her mad. Now the good guys are being chased around by a headless body and a flying head! As luck would have it, the head falls into the villain's (Shing Fui On) bag, and he runs off with it thinking it's the counterfeit printing plates. More silliness ensues. Finally, in the last twenty minutes, all of the heroes band together and banish all of the evil spirits back to hell.
