Tiffany, a runaway bride from the countryside, was at the wrong place at the right time. She had picked up an abandoned cellphone outside a hotel window and answered a fateful call from Steven. As it turned out, the phone belonged to Li Hui, who had been kidnapped. Steven sought Tiffany's help in rescuing her, as he was too far away to save Li Hui in time. Through this twist of fate, two of them became friends over the phone despite having never met each other.

Misaki, a sophomore transfer student arrives at Yokosuka High School and decides to join the Brass Band Club having heard of its prestigious past from her father, a former member. However, after her entry, Misaki finds that much has changed and the club is now full of dull and inactive students. Misaki determines to do her best to return the club to its glory days, but she must help many of the students overcome their personal problems. It all seems too daunting for Misaki to take on herself, but when she meets Yuki, a gifted sax player at the local US Army base, she recruits her, and together they gradually bring the club and all of its members to life

Himawari is an unsuccessful 39-year-old enka singer who has bad luck with men and money. Born into an Osaka takoyaki shop, the young Himawari was inspired by her father's words to immerse herself in enka. At the age of 13 her father disappears and her mother, bitter over the husband that left her, remarries--but Himawari has trouble adjusting to a new father and brother. With her father's words in her head--"You're the #1 singer in all of Japan!"--Himawari immediately heads to Tokyo after high school and makes her debut as an enka singer.

Akari (Fujiwara Norika) works in a jewelry store where she is sometimes asked to attend parties as a jewelry model. She is not very happy to realize that she has been singled out not for her intelligence, but for her looks. At 29, Akari is eager to get married, but her boyfriend makes it clear that marriage is not in his plans. There was once a man in Akari's life whom she has been unable to forget.
