As a child Takuma is diagnosed with a heart condition that requires care from a cardiologist. He soon becomes friends with his doctors young daughter Mayu while being treated at the hospital. One day Mayu overhears her father saying that Takumas condition is serious enough that he most likely wont live beyond the age of 20. Takuma isn't aware of this himself, however, so at 8-years-old he makes a promise to marry Mayu when they turn 20. Later in life, Takuma becomes aware that he wont be able to keep this promise and he begins distancing himself from Mayu in hopes of protecting her.

Western Seoul train station, 1996. A baby is thrown into a coin locker. She is picked up by a beggar, who names her Il Yeong. When she turns 10, she is sold off to a woman referred to simply as Mother. She is raised by remorseless loan sharks until she is 18 years old, by which time she has become Mother's trusted right hand. One day, Il Yeong is given a task: to stay close to Suk Hyun, the son of a debtor. Over the course of a few days, she becomes friends with the boy and is exposed to a world she never knew existed. She envies the normalcy that other teenage girls enjoy and opens her heart to Suk Hyun. But when his father flees, Mother orders her to kill Suk Hyun. Il Yeong cannot go through with it and by making that single choice, she must now flee from the only family she has ever known.

Ishikawa Kazuto is a first-class architect. He is married to Kiyomi. They have a son, Tadashi, who attends high school and a daughter, Miyabi, who attends middle school. They live together in a refined home, designed by Kazuto.

An injury causes Tadashi to quit playing soccer. Since that time, Tadashi often stays out all night without permission. One evening, Tadashi leaves home and does not return. Kazuto and Kiyomi become worried about their son and consider going to the police. News then reveals the murder of Tadashi's classmate. The police suspect that Tadashi might be involved in the murder.

1933. 20 years before, Katsuzo was in love with a geisha who gave him a daughter. They tried to run away together but they were caught and the woman was killed under his eyes. Now he is a zegen aka a pimp who sells girls to the Yokiro, the biggest geisha house in Southern Japan, run by Osode who used to be his mistress. His daughter who was raised by the Geisha House is now a Great Geisha under the name Momowaka. And his girlfriend, Tamako, wants to become a geisha. Momowaka falls in love, one of Osaka's yakuza clans wants to take control of the Yokiro.

Tsukakoshi is an old man. His mistress is Geisha Fumiko and he is fascinated by her beautiful feet. He requests Unokichi to paint a picture of Fumiko as a model. Second film in a 3 part project titled "Tanizaki Tribute".
