Set towards the end of the Joseon era, Sung Yi-Gyeom placed first in the state examination and he now works at the Hongmungwan (administrative and research department). He doesn't have a goal or ambition for his life. One day, Sung Yi-Gyeom is caught gambling. As punishment, he is assigned to work as a secret royal inspector. His job is to eradicate illegal acts and corruption by public officers. He carries out his new job with the help of Hong Da-In and Park Chun-Sam. Hong Da-In is a female inspector and solves cases with Sung Yi-Gyeom. Park Chun-Sam is Sung Yi-Gyeom’s servant. Park Chun-Sam is talkative, affectionate, and tearful.

Meanwhile, Sung Yi-Beom is Sung Yi-Gyeom’s younger stepbrother. His father is a nobleman, but his mother is a slave. Due to his mother's low social status, his father does not accept him as his real son and he is barred from having certain opportunities. He opposes his older stepbrother Sung Yi-Gyeom.

Haru works at a university’s library. She is not particular about her meals and is more interested in keeping up with information on her favourite manga through her smartphone. One random day, Haru becomes depressed by the words of pity she hears about herself every day. That night, she heads to her regular drinking spot to soothe her hurt. She gets drunk with an androgynous guy called Ao-kun and they hit it off. The two of them end up living under one roof on impulse. However, the rule for living together is to make lunch boxes for each other?

As leader of a crime investigation team, Han Tae Joo has propelled his career and risen through the ranks by trusting data over all else. One day, while investigating a serial murder case, he has an accident. When he wakes up, he suddenly finds himself in the winter of 1988. He doesn't know why, but he's now a detective appointed to work at a police station in a small city. To get back to the present day, Han Tae Joo tries to solve the case.

Charn is a clever lawyer inclined to accept high-paying and high-profile cases that will bring him renown. On one occasion, he's taken off a case as it's gaining widespread interest. Having lost face and oportunity, he's suspisious of the reason for his removal and wants to get his revenge. He suspects he can find something hidden within the case for his own profit. Charn therefore decides to switch sides to Tinn, the uncle of Tonkhao, a young girl who was struck and killed by a car and failed to recieve justice. The two come together to search for the truth.

Despite holding opposing views, their closeness brings about new feelings. As their work becomes more and more dangerous, the two become certain that this case is not at all ordinary.

The young painter Shen Yi resigned from the Academy of Fine Arts and entered Haicheng Public Security Bureau mysteriously.
