This film is about normal families in Japan as the memory of postwar life among the rubble was fading and people were adjusting to Japan's new economic prosperity and consumerism. So it is a fun movie about parents and kids but it is worth keeping in mind the time in which this film is set. The parents are of the generation of Japanese who remember the destruction and starvation of WWII and the kids are the "spoiled" new generation born afterward. The "new" prosperous world has mostly replaced the "old", but look closely for reminders of the war. They may not be easy to find, but that's the point. TVs and washing machines are actually very important here since this is the period when everyone was getting their very first one.

Divorced mother Chae-Min-Young (Kim Seo-Hyung) moves into a new studio apartment with her six year old daughter Joo-Hee (Kim You-Jung). Min-Young becomes disturbed when her neighbor, who lives one floor below her, complains about the noise coming from their apartment. Min-Young and Joo-Hee live quietly and do make much noise. Min-Young also notices strange behavior from other neighbors. Min-Young looks to uncover the truth behind the apartment complex.

Set 10 years after "Kids Return." Shinji and Masaru have graduated from high school. They have taken completely different paths in their lives. Shinji attempted to become boxer and Masaru a yakuza. They both tried to rise to the top of their respective fields, but they both failed.

10 years later, Shinji has given up on boxing and now works part-time jobs. After release from prison, Masaru goes back to gang life. Shinji and Masaru then meet once again. With Masaru's encouragement, Shinji again steps into the ring. Meanwhile, Masaru takes a challenge that risks his own life.
