Will a killer-turned-veterinarian and a detective find common ground?

Kim Soo Hyun is a veterinarian who is also a professional killer. Many individuals and organizations hire him for large sums of money. Nobody in the public knows anything about him as a killer, including his age, name, and race. Animals are his only companions, but deep inside, he constantly yearns for love. He struggles to develop and maintain any pure relationships around him. One day, a client asks him to kill in exchange for information regarding his mysterious past and a conspiracy involving his birth.

He now struggles to become a photographer and supports himself by woking for a private detective office. A clients requests that they find his cat. He faces Yang-Soon once he locates the cat. Through their meeting, Yang-Soon and Chi-Woong discover a family's hidden truth.

Haga Ineko stopped being a school teacher for she was about to get married. When she is suddenly dumped by her to-be husband, she loses her way, and starts drinking. One day, an old friend approaches with a job offer. She would be a substitute teacher in a class on which several teachers gave up without an apparent reason. She reluctantly takes the job only to discover that there are several brutal bullying cases inside the class. Even she eventually starts being anonymously threatened due to her opposing posture against such cases. She now has to identify and reprimand them while at the same time protecting weaker students. The word "Hagane" on the title is a nickname which comes from Haga (her surname) and Ne (from Ineko, her name), but is actually a pun with the actual word hagane (which means steel, denoting how she must be in order to resist as a teacher).

There is a small French restaurant called Bistro Pas Mal which sells exquisite food and its own mulled wine in a nook of a working class neighbourhood in Tokyo. Its chef Mifune Shinobu trained at French-style inns and restaurants in the countryside of France for more than 10 years but has completely no interest in Michelin stars, status or titles. He has an outstanding memory of the flavours, colours and scents of ingredients and people’s faces, and also notices the smallest details. Despite Mifune’s taciturn, inscrutable nature and artisan spirit, he cares about people and wants to heal them with his food. However, his kind intentions can easily become meddlesome. Takatsuki Tomoyuki becomes a waiter at Bistro Pas Mal after a strange turn of events. But not long after he begins working there, he feels bewildered by the stream of troublesome customers coming to the restaurant such as the fussy Kasuya Koichi who makes special requests as well as Tsuruoka Tadashi who gets into an argument with Kawade Keiko, a woman that seems to be his girlfriend, and ends up finding fault with the dessert. Mifune helps unravel the problems or worries of these customers with his extraordinary powers of observation and deduction.
