The tale of Tiger & Dragon revolves around , a traditional form of Japanese comedy that can look back on an impressive 400 year long history. Nagase portrays the Yakuza follower Toraji who goes to a Rakugo performer to collect debts, while Okada plays Ryuji a talented Rakugo player who wants to leave behind the old fashioned world of Rakugo for good. Shortly afterwards these two very different characters happen to cross paths through a girl named Megumi and that's when all the real trouble starts igniting...  

Kamishiro Kohei was a professional musician 20 years ago. He only had one hit song and remained in obscurity until his contract was terminated by the record company and he left the music industry. Now at the age of 44, Kamishiro is still a bachelor. He has no permanent residence and uses his looks to move from one woman’s home to the next. On this day too, he breaks up with a woman who feels that it is about time, and leaves carrying his little belongings and guitar case. Sano Sakura works as maintenance support at the maintenance shop of Big Mobil, a large car dealership. Although she is friendly, she is always reminded by her boss Takigawa Fumio to give proper responses. Sakura also does not talk much with her colleagues. After warning Sakura, Takigawa greets Kamishiro. Kamishiro serves as the company’s corporate counsellor twice a week. Although time has passed, he has not been able to completely cut off his passion for music and leads a life of drudgery. After work, Kamishiro heads over to the live music bar ‘S’ where the owner Sasa Yuji immediately recognises that he has broken up with a woman. Kamishiro requests for lodgings for the time being, but is rejected. It is difficult for Kamishiro to ask his old friends who have all settled down. Sasa suggests that it is better if he asks Shishido Natsuki again, but Kamishiro feels awkward about it and searches for a manga cafe to spend the night. However, none of them are comfortable so he has no choice but to stay overnight at Natsuki’s home. One day, Sakura makes a mistake at work. Worried about Sakura’s poor communication with her work colleagues, Takigawa gets her to see Kamishiro

A story that follows Peng Tianyi who represents the common educated youth of the Northeast and his experiences living in the vast countryside. In the 1970s, a group of Beijing educated youths became friends. They fought bravely for reform amidst waves of historical tides. In order to protect the lifelong achievements of an old scientist, Peng Tianyi is sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. After he was acquitted, Peng Tianyi continued to take root in the countryside in order to promote reform until he eventually becomes a revered academic of his generation.

The affair that Mahiro has been having with the married Yutaka has been the only escape from her troubled family life caused by her father's own extra-marital affair. Mahiro despises her father for his past infidelity but cannot bring herself to stop Yutaka from being unfaithful to his wife. However, an unplanned pregnancy triggers a series of events that promises to shatter the small bubble of happiness Mahiro has made for herself and bring the brewing dissonance in her family to a head.

Tomomitsu Tsuchiya (Taisuke Fujigaya) is the captain of his high school basketball team. He is also a senior at his school. Even though he is not that good in basketball, he is selected as bench player for the prefecture qualifying round. The underclassmen on his team, who are all better than him, are not happy about his selection. Tomomitsu Tsuchiya then meets Sae Hatori (Mizuki Yamamoto). She is also a senior at the same high school. She keeps watching Tomomitsu Tsuchiya shoot three pointers. They become closer and develop a romantic relationship. Suddenly, Sae transfers to another school without saying a word.
