5000 years ago the ancient Chinese faced off with the dark forces of the Universe, creating radiant image stones bearing the power of elements - the Guǎng Yǐngshí - to ward off the evil. Thousands of years later, the evil force returns, and only the direct descendants of the original image stones can stop it... Xin Nan, Bei Sen, Dong Sha, Xi Zhao, and Kun Zhong are the descendents of the fire village, the water village, the wood village, the metal village, and the earth village, respectively. Their bodies contain a mysterious gene. Under the use of the Guāng Yǐngshí, they will receive magical combat armors that have been passed down since the ancient times. With these armors, they will become the heroes of righteousness: Yán Lóng - Fire Dragon, Hèi Xī - Black Rhinoceros, Tiān Yīng - Sky Eagle, Xuě Aó - Snow Mastiff, and Dì Hǔ - Earth Tiger. As these heroes, they will fight against the Emperor of Darkness and his minions. In order to disrupt the peace of the community, the evil ones used pollutants to create a Wǔrǎn shòu - pollution monsters which destroy the environment and the peace of the community.

As a fusion drama on the life of politician Kim Doo Han, the drama tells the life of Kim Doo Han with fact and fiction. Kim Doon Han is the son of the great general Kim Jwah Jin, who fought for Korea against the Japanese during World War II. After his dad dies, Kim Doo Han trains in kung pao and learns to be a leader against the evil Japanese. He finds his own position as boss of the Jong Ro area in Seoul, and vows to protect his own Korean people. Goo Ma Juk, the boss of Seoul, fights against Kim Doo Han in an attempt to hand over the whole Seoul area to the Japanese redevelopment project, pursued by Hyashi. Hyashi himself is a Korean but he ironically lives as a Japanese fighting his own people. Through these many barriers, Kim Doo Han struggles to keep the Korean culture alive, later on becoming a politician after the Korean War.

Wang Wen Xuan is an idealistic and good-natured man living during a tumultuous period in China. He's in love with his classmate Zeng Shu Sheng, but his traditional mother wants him to marry a girl of her choosing. In the midst of war and the inevitable tension of the times, Wen Xuan is frequently torn between Shu Sheng and his mother. Despite having a boyfriend, the closeness with Mint leads her to reconsider her feelings. At the same time, Bambam meets again Beau, a childhood friend who has always had a secret crush for her.

The drama is based on the best-selling same-titled novel by Shigematsu Kiyoshi. It tells the story of how a widower brought up his only son, after the death of his beloved wife. Ichikawa Yasuo, or Yasu as he is known, is a baka, with no paper qualifications to his name. However, like all normal parents, he dotes on his only son, Akira. Having grown up without his parents around, Yasu himself knows next to nothing of what parenting is about. With his wife, Misako, by his side, he had spent many happy days together with his little family.

However, when Akira was 3 years old, Misako passed away suddenly from an accident. Heart-broken, and filled with regrets, Yasu pulled himself together, in order to care for his little son. Together with the help of his friends, Yasu overcame it all, and Akira grew up to be a bright and successful young man.
