Banished from the peaceful simian Planet E, the mad scientist Dr. Gori and his brutish assistant Karras [Lla in the Japanese version] search for a new planet to rule after Gori's plot to conquer Planet E had been foiled by its government. Coming across the Earth, Gori is captivated by its beauty, but is appalled by its inhabitants' misuse of its environment, leading to severe pollution (a huge topic back when this series was made, since Tokyo was the most polluted city in the world at the time), so mankind must be quickly conquered if this planet is to be inhabitable, so he plots to, ironically, use the very same pollution that's plaguing the Earth to create horrible giant rampaging monsters to wipe out and/or enslave mankind.

"Chun Tian Li De Ren Men" tells the story of Xu Ying Ying, a doctoral teacher at Ningzhou University who came to the spring community to investigate and was unexpectedly elected as the community director. She kept thinking and exploring in the complex community governance work, and grew from a grassroots worker to an excellent community cadre. With the joint efforts of community policeman Tian Li Jie, social worker colleagues and many community residents, the old factory area has been transformed into a characteristic central block that residents yearn for.

Hikari (Kyoko Fukada) has to take care of her sick mother and two younger brothers. They are informed that their missing father has died, and later find out he left them a huge 10 million yen debt. They are a very poor family. They have no money or food. To pay off the debt, Hikari lands a cleaning job at the UBS TV company. On the other side, there's Masako Nagai (Matsushita Yuki), a struggling UBS TV drama producer. The men she works with are somewhat sexist. Through an incident within UBS, Masako discovers Hikari's talents as a creative person with a great imagination for drama writing. With no allies within UBS, she decides to hire Hikari, training her to be an assistant producer. Hikari's happiness is keeping her family fed and paying off her father's debt. Masako's happiness is to gain respect within UBS by excelling as a drama producer.

Big brother KWAN KA ON (Michael Miu) is an interior designer and his wife SZE LONG KIU (Sonija Kwok) is a modern housewife. The couple had always only hoped for a peaceful family, but because ON had to rescue second brother KWAN KA HONG (Oscar Leung) and help him get through the troubles of his failed business, not only does he put his career plans aside, his wife KIU also had to go back out into the workforce. His younger sister KWAN KA LOK (Linda Chung) didn't want to burden her big brother any further, so she turned to her supervisor KO WAN JIM (Michael Tse) for assistance. However, the relationship turned into unethical interaction. LOK's boyfriend TING KOON FUNG (Ron Ng) was angered by her doings and wanted to break up with her. Fourth brother, KWAN KA WING (Him Law) lives his life from paycheck to paycheck. He would rather spend his monthly salary than to take up the responsibility of owning a home....ultimately, a nightmare starts in the KWAN family.

Manow was born into a wealthy family, but she got kidnapped as a baby by her aunt who was jealous that she'll receive the majority of the inheritance. She left Manow in the slums and was about to kill her when Jarunee found them. The aunt left in a hurry. Jarunee then took the baby as her own and raised her. Years later, Manow works in several jobs in order to feed her family. When fate leads her to meet Suruk, a millionaire, they don't get along at first but they eventually fall in love. Will he be able to find her biological parents?

The alien invader Goa plots to conquer the Earth. He first warns the Murakami family (father Atsushi, mother Tomoko, and son Mamoru) of their invasion, and demonstrates his powers by transporting them to a prehistoric jungle and destroying a Giant Dinosaur (in reality, Agon, the title monster of a Godzilla-like TV series) before their very eyes. But they will not agree to surrender to Goa, so hope comes in the form of Magma, an armored, golden giant with long hair and antennae. He and his human-sized wife Mol, both created by the wizard Earth (who indeed lives deep beneath the Earth), are sent to defend our world against Goa. They befriend Atsushi and Mamoru; the latter has touched Magma emotionally, as he wanted to have a child with his wife Mol, so Earth creates a duplicate of Mamoru, named Gam (who wears a helmet with antennas). Earth gives Mamoru a whistle, with which he can call Gam (when blown once), Mol (when blown twice) and Magma (when blown thrice) in times of crisis. So when Goa unleashes his various daikaiju, chances are, Magma, Mol, and Gam will fly to the rescue.

Ryutaro Asada, a renegade but brilliant surgeon, was being framed for a misdiagnosis and let go by the North Japanese Hospital. He went into exile and lived in a seaside shack when he was visited by Akira Kato, assistant professor of the Faculty of Cardiac Surgery at Meishin University Medical Hospital. Despite being a female doctor, Akira managed to become an assistant professor. She was ambitious and set her goal to be promoted to full professor by succeeding in a surgery using the Batista technique — an extremely difficult type of heart surgery — and to write a paper on it. A year ago, Akira witnessed Ryutaro's skills when he was an NGO doctor and was impressed enough to seek his assistance in the Batista technique. This drama exposed the difficulties encountered in the rigid Japanese medical professions in treating patients whereby decisions made were based more on protecting the hospitals than the patients.

Himawari is an unsuccessful 39-year-old enka singer who has bad luck with men and money. Born into an Osaka takoyaki shop, the young Himawari was inspired by her father's words to immerse herself in enka. At the age of 13 her father disappears and her mother, bitter over the husband that left her, remarries--but Himawari has trouble adjusting to a new father and brother. With her father's words in her head--"You're the #1 singer in all of Japan!"--Himawari immediately heads to Tokyo after high school and makes her debut as an enka singer.
