Set during a period of reform, Li Chunsheng represents the Chinese worker who becomes braver in the face of obstacles and takes up the burden of caring for others. Towards the end of 1990's, Li Chunsheng of Hongxing Coal Mine obtains a national prestige as a model worker. At the grand celebration, he meets Bai Jie who has just started working. Li Chunsheng falls for Bai JIe at first sight but her mother Ding Ruilan is against their relationship. In spite of the doubts about him, Li Chunsheng persisted for his love. Sadly, Bai Jie dies due to complications at chidbirth. Li Chungsheng tries to get back on his feet, aligning his personal interests with that of the company, all while taking care of his family.

Na Young (Kang Sung Yun of New Wise Mother, Good Wife) is a thirty-something-year-old woman who gives in to familial pressure to get married. She enters a matchmaking service in a desperate attempt to find a husband. Meanwhile, Jae Won (Yoon Da Hoon of Come Back, Soon Ae) is a man fast-approaching forty with no money to his name. He, too, submits his name to the matchmaking service and by happenstance, the unlikely couple are paired together and married.

A day before the Korean War breaks out in 1950, a man is murdered. This event triggers repercussions in three families, as four young people struggle with love and forgiveness. Kim Eun Hee's father was falsely accused of the murder, and dies tragically as a result. Since then, Eun Hee has been shunned by her fellow villagers. Im Sung Jae has always been in love with Eun Hee, but the past threatens to tear them apart. Since his father's death, Sung Jae was ironically rescued and raised as a son by the real killer, Cha Seok Goo. Seok Goo's daughter, Cha Young Joo, is arrogant and smart, and has feelings for Sung Jae. Her jealousy drives her to try to break up his relationship with Eun Hee. Choi Jung Tae is also in love with Eun Hee, but he accepts that she cares for someone else.

On the day of entrance exam someone helps Narumi by giving her a pencil. She wants to thank him but he's soon gone. She couldn't forget her hero so she hopes to see him again. While looking around the campus she hears the sound of the piano and enters a room where other four freshmen are present. Here she'll meet Seika, Tamotsu, Osamu and Junichiro. Together they decide to form the Asunaro Club.
