The series portrayed the adventures of a roving samurai detective/spy, Akikusa Shintarō (Koichi Ose), whose real identity is Matsudaira Nobuchiyo - the older half-brother of Tokugawa Ienari, the 11th Tokugawa shogun, who is still a minor. Being the son of a concubine, Nobuchiyo has no claim to power, so he assumes the guise of a wandering swordsman named Shintarō to seek out and eliminate plots by rival feudal lords and thus protect his younger brother.

Miki Kakuta (Nana Eikura) graudates from a second-rate university and scores a job at the top company in her field. Miki then becomes an OL (Office Lady), but things turn for the worse for Miki. After a few trivial errors she becomes the target of bullying by her co-workers (even endures a fake webpage made about her). Her immediate boss Yukiko Sano (Yoshino Kimura) gives Miki the cold shoulder, co-worker Marika Tachibana (Anne Watanabe) acts as her friend but makes jokes about her behind her back, senior employee Shota Nakahara (Jun Kaname) seems reliable but Miki realizes that she should keep her distance, and her head boss Seichi Kirino (Naohito Fujiki) is absolutely indifferent to her. Through all of this Miki decides to tough it out and not run away from her job.

A story of Daonin, a poor country girl who was tricked to work as a prostitute in Bangkok. Just as Daonin's life could not get any worse, she was picked up by a talent spotter who groomed her into a highly sought after superstar. The story has three main chapters. Bao Da Niang mistakenly becomes involved in a case. Bao Zheng tries to clear his mother's name but it brings to light a massacre related to the ghost bride. On the way to the capital, Bao Zheng enters the Wuji Inn where he uses his intelligence to uncover the mysteries in the blood spirit forest. Finally, the Soul Village seems to be connected to a big conspiracy in the palace.

This series is based on the life of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor who unified China under the Qin dynasty in 221 BC.
