She's been married eight years now to Yoshio (Ken Ishiguro), who works for a major advertising firm. Three years ago, she discovered that Yoshio was having an affair. Michiko was called by her husband's lover Chizuko Osawa (Saki Takaoka), who told her that her husband didn't consider her to be a woman. Since then, Michiko has been paying a lot of attention to her looks and appearance to keep Yoshio interested in her, making special dishes for him every night and doing her very best to be a devoted and attractive wife.

Shishido Joichiro (Hirano Kinari) cannot tolerate unreasonable things and bullying. After moving from one job to another because of his tendency to lose his temper, he immediately decides to join the private security firm Tokyo Fists at the invitation of its company president Wanibuchi Tsuyoshi (Murakami Jun). The firm is made up of a group of tough bodyguards who preserve peace on the streets at night. However, Shishido has to go through training first. If he is deemed appropriate, he will then be hired as an employee. He meets the capable but very overbearing Hachino Shinya (Yoon Hak), who will be his direct superior during the training. Although Shishido feels overwhelmed by the employees who show up, he slowly starts to grow up little by little.

Tokuzo Akiyama is a young man from a rural area who is married with a child along the way. One day, he eats a delicious breaded cutlet which inspires him to strive to become a chef, specializing in Parisian cuisine. He travels to Tokyo, then Paris, France to learn the culinary arts. Despite facing discrimination and prejudice, he becomes a chef at the Hotel Ritz in Paris. At the age of 26, he becomes the Emperor of Japan’s personal chef.

The story is based on the life of fashion designer Koshino Ayako, who passed away in 2006 at the age of 92. Although she was a successful designer in Japan, she also single-handedly raised three daughters who followed in her footsteps to become internationally known designers, named Hiroko, Junko, and Michiko. Ono's character in the drama, modeled after Koshino, is named Ohara Itoko. She will play the character from her teenage years to her fifties. The story is set in the Kansai region, but Ono will have no problem with the dialect since she is originally from Nara.

A father is transferred from his work at a prestigious news paper and loses his social status. The family now has to deal with changes in their lives.

Arisa Mizuki plays a 35-year-old woman named Kurumi, who suddenly loses everything in her life when her fiance runs off with all of her assets. Left with a mere 15,000 yen and some boxes of ohagi (a type of rice ball), the despairing Kurumi happens upon a construction site, and she begins handing out the ohagi to the men working there. Using the theme of food, "Tenshi no Wakemae" depicts Kurumi's journey as she turns her life around.
