A woman travels to Nagoya to meet her boyfriend who works there. She is disheartened to learn that he is seeing a new girl. The movie is based on a real historic event. During French's invading war against China in 1885, the French army took over Zhengnan Guan located in the Guangxi Province. Wishing to protect their beloved country, the 70 years old General Feng Zicai and his two sons volunteered to join the battle. The general understood it would be a difficult battle to win as the French soldiers held much more advanced equipment, resources and weapons. To show his devotion and determination, he brought his own coffin alongside with him to the war zone. He also utilized his experience with the Zhangnan Guan terrain to pave out strategies, made weapons applicable to their situations. These actions bolstered the morale tremendously, and prepared them well for the war. As a result, although the Chinese soldiers sustained heavy losses, they turned the tide of the battle and won.

Opposites attract, but with unexpected results in this romantic drama set in China in 1978. Li Siping (Li Jie) is a rebellious 18-year-old who lives with his family in Xigandao, a town in Northern China. While the influence of the Cultural Revolution is fading in much of China, that isn't the case in Xigandao, which goes against the grain of Siping's anti-authoritarian nature. Siping doesn't take his job very seriously and would prefer to listen to music than think about his future, an attitude which doesn't sit well with his mother (Zhao Haiyan) and father, who have their hands full with his lackadaisical younger brother (Zhang Dengfeng). Siping is suddenly shaken out of his apathy when he meets Yu Xueyan (Shen Jiani), a pretty music student his age whose family has moved into the neighborhood from Beijing. Siping is attracted by Xueyan's beauty and impressed with her intelligence and spunk, and he wastes no time pursuing her. A romance grows between the two, but when Siping is drafted into the Army, their relationship is put on hold, and when he returns, he discovers circumstances have changed in unusual ways.

Nae-Kyung (Song Kang-Ho) hails from a ruined noble family. He travels around Joseon and studies physiognomy. He is able to asses a person's personality, mental state, habits and, consequently, their future, by just studying their face. He lives in seclusion with his son Jin-Hyeong (Lee Jong-Suk) and brother-in-law Paeng-Hun (Cho Jung-Seok). Nae-Kyung hopes to one day become a public officer, even though it is virtually impossible due to his family's failed background.

Tae Soo tries to steal from a gang. The gang catches Tae Soo's brother, Tae Jin, instead. The incident causes the brothers to separate. Tae Soo becomes a mob fixer and an assassin. Tae Jin becomes a police detective. When a call brings the brothers together, they get ready for brotherly bonding, but Tae Jin gets killed. Tae Soo decides to get revenge on his brother's killer.

Mia, a teenager, works as a cleaner in a motel in a small seaside town. One night, while manning the reception for her co-worker Lili, she witnesses an assault of two 12-year-old schoolgirls by a middle-aged man. Through the surveillance TV, she sees the man forces himself into the girls' room and records the whole incident with her hand phone. Mia keeps quiet for fear of losing her job. However, for one of the victims, Xiao Wen realizes that her troubles have only just begun. As Mia and Xiao Wen find themselves in ever harrowing circumstances and nowhere to run, they have to work together to find their own way out.
