Yasujiro Ozu's 1953 masterpiece Tokyo Story is regarded by many as the greatest film in the history of Japanese cinema, a finely wrought tale of human fragility amidst the rampant social upheaval of post-war Japan.

In Tokyo Family, 81-year-old modern master Yôji Yamada transports Ozu's opus to the Japan of today - a country where economic hope has waned and the threat to tradition is more pronounced than ever.

Elderly Shukichi and Tomiko swap their remote island home for Tokyo to spend some time with their three grown-up and very different children. Overcome with the stresses of the city, the kids absently shuffle their parents from one to the other, but when Tomiko has a stroke, everything they thought they valued is thrown into devastating relief...

When she was a middle school student, Futaba Yoshioka liked Kou Tanaka who was unlike the other boys and quite gentle. Kou Tanaka then moved away and they lost contact.

At the end of Futaba Yoshioka's first year as a high school student she meets Kou Tanaka again. Kou Tanaka’s name has changed to Kou Mabuchi and his personality seems different from his middle school days.

Around midnight, on the northern riverside road, a 4 car accident occurs resulting in one fatality. Coming out of a Mercedes Benz, Do Yeop (Kim Su Ro) & Sang Kil (Han Jae Seok) start to argue with married couple Sang Do (Ryoo Seung Ryong) & Pal Nyeo (Jang Yeong Nam). In another car there is depression support group member Yeo Na (Shim Eun Kyeong) & the president of the depression support group Jung Sang (Kim Byeong Ok). There's also an awkward father & son, Ho Man (Song Young Chang) & Ji Yong (Lee Ji Yong). They all have to go to the police station.

At the police station, there's a group of people, including delivery guy Cheol Joo (Ryu Deok Hwan) & his friends.

To identify the victim the police go through her items and attempts to load her USB flash drive onto a computer. The USB flash drive is protected by a password.

The people at the police station work together to try to gain access to the USB flash drive.

On the USB flash drive the answer to the 30th question from a quiz show giving out $1.3 million dollars is discovered. All the people at the police station now know the final question to the quiz show. If they can correctly answer the other 29 questions they will make a lot of money. On the day of the quiz show, all the people from the police station show up at the studio.

"It’s a psychologically turbulent tale, of a young woman, Reiko, in her early 20s, who has lived with an elbow deformity that means she essentially just uses her right arm. She’s grown up with a cynical, forthright view of the world, but also doesn’t care about the consequences of her actions. When she meets a middle-aged man, Katsuragi, after his dog bites her, she sets out to win him, not caring about his marriage which, she finds out, is to a woman who has been unfaithful with a toyboy. She and Katsuragi do begin an affair, but then she starts to intrude into his wife’s life and comes to befriend her when the wife helps her recover from pneumonia, not knowing who she was. The flashback structure which unfolds, and the melancholy score, tell us this isn’t going to end up rosy. What is unexpected is the callousness of its heroine. She sees no problem in befriending a woman whose husband she’s sleeping with and feels no remorse when the truth becomes known. Yet it’s more disturbing still, in that Reiko begins to call Mrs. Katsuragi, mother, as if to replace her own deceased mother, thus bringing an incestuous angle into proceedings with her lover thus becoming a surrogate father. In Yoko Ono’s hometown of Yanagawa, Liu Chuan works as a bar singer, often singing John Lennon’s "Oh My Love." On reuniting with Liu Chuan, the brothers approach her in their own ways, as they had 20 years ago.
