Drawing its inspiration from well-known Chinese Taoist mythology, 8 Avatar employs the latest 3D computer visual effects to depict a fantasy world of mortals battling against deities. This TV series places emphasis on how eight mortal humans from all walks of life become the "Eight Immortals", putting them on a sacred mission to obtain the magic herbs to save the world, during which they have to deal with the vicious East Sea Dragon King blocking their way. Filling the main roles are popular artistes from Hong Kong and Mainland China, including Roger Kwok as Han Xiang Zi, Sonija Kwok, Hugo Ng as Iron-Crutch Li, Akina Hong as He Xiangu, and He Zhonghua as Lu Dongbin, with their images re-imagined by top costume consultant Shirley Chan (The Forbidden Kingdom, Kung Fu Hustle). With amazing costumes and outstanding martial arts, this series features an all star cast including Roger Kwok & Sonija Kwok. During the Tang Dynasty, when land was still undiscovered with just a mass amount of water, and there were outbreaks of incurable diseases. God sent two of his immortals, Tong and Hung, to seek a cure from the Mountain of Medicine. Unfortunately, along the way, they were blocked by the East Sea King and the two immortals had problems getting to the Mountain of Medicine. Just then the apparition of Kwan Yin appeared and she informed the two immortals that in order to defeat the East Sea King, they must locate the other six immortals and battle the East Sea King together. The two immortals then set waves to find the other six disguised immortals amongst the human kind.

Farhad and Mahi hail from completely different economic and cultural backgrounds. Mahi, who comes from an influential family, must adhere to the conventions and requirements of her family’s class despite her true jovial nature. Farhad on the other hand belongs to a small town and is instantly drawn to the charismatic Mahi and soon forsakes everything for her. Farhad becomes part of the working crew as a guard when he finds out Mahi hails from a very rich and influential family. Not only can he not talk with her and he can’t even see her. Another female servant, Sajal, who works there, falls in love with him, but he rejects her. Farhad doesn’t mention his intention with his close friend that he becomes with while staying there. Mahi is getting married to another Rich person and Farhad can not bear the news. He tries to talk with her, but Mahi continuously rejects him. He isn't able to take the rejection. According to Farhaad, he can reject others, but a girl can't reject him. Although Mahi has already rejected him, he continues to disturb Mahi and make her guilty for not reciprocating his love. Mahi starts to think about him due to her guilt. Farhad is getting ready to leave the place after Mahi tries to break his heart by telling him that she needs a rich guy when infact she wanted to save his life from her family out of humanity. Turns out Farhad fell under the train and is now dead. The news have been broken to the family. But little do they know while they are getting ready for Mahi’s wedding Mahi faints to the news. Mahi’s nikkah and ruksathi take place but during the wedding procession, Taimoor is shot on the way to Multan and dies. Mahi is eventually persuaded to marry Taimoor's elder brother, Sikandar. This is the start of Farhad's curse and Mahi will now lead a life of trials and tribulations.

In a small village, a long standing feud comes between the families of two estranged brothers; older brother, Mian Yaqoob and younger brother, Mianji. Their children are married in a 'Vatta Satta',(exchange marriage). Life takes a dark turn when one brother's daughter is murdered by her uncle, in revenge for his son who had been murdered years prior.
