This drama is about the lives of Tae-hee and Yun-hee, two sisters whose mother died while giving birth to Yun-hee. Their father, who loves them dearly, married their mother without their paternal grandfather's consent, and deprived of any familial support, the sisters and their father struggle to make ends meet even as their father faces a life-threatening illness. This drama follows Tae-hee and Yun-hee into adulthood as, separated by a cruel twist of fate, the girls come to lead very different lives, oblivious of one another.

Young, talented, and handsome Qing Yu Jiang (Calvin Chen) receives orders to look for Chairman Yuan's long lost granddaughter, Shen Ya Yin (Victoria/Song Qian). Because her grandfather tried every means to track her down to search for her and to separate her from her father, she and her father often moved houses and hid away from her grandfather, eventually, her father fell ill and died. Ya Yin's guardian plotted a plan for her own daughter (Ya Yin's cousin) to impose as Ya Yin to dupe Chairman Yuan into thinking that she is actually his long lost granddaughter. Yu Jiang gradually enters Ya Yin's heart but refuses to admit his love for her because she's Chairman Yuan's granddaughter. Ya Yin's evil cousin became an obstacle between Ya Yin and Yu Jiang.

Tsung Ka Yuen is an excellent police officer whose team always seems to get assigned to the most interesting cases in all of HK. Because the crimes that Ka Yuen's team deals with are mostly murders, in comes the forensics unit! The intelligent and modern forensics examiner, Pauline Lip Bo Yin. Her beauty and brains can be a bit intimidating so she too has not had much luck at love. As with Ka Yuen, Pauline also has an interesting family history. Her father was a well-known bomb expert who died when she was quite young. Pauline has remained extremely close with her mother, sister, and niece.

Honjo Hidehisa (Nakai Kiichi), a successful lawyer in his 50s, is found to have an early onset of Alzheimer’s. He forgets memories which he ought to remember and constantly recalls those that he wants to forget. One incident he wishes to forget is the death of his son in a car accident. The culprit still has not been caught. Honjo has not faced up to the past until now. He has only thought of work and neglected his new family. But as he gradually begins to lose his memories, he devotes his remaining life to exposing his past and taking on his final case.

Based on a novel by Akutagawa Prize-winning author, Yu Miri, this is a story about the supernatural and the bonds between a father and daughter. Sakurai Tomoharu is a single parent who has an extremely close relationship to his daughter. One of his hobbies is catching and collecting butterflies, and he has traveled to Taiwan to catch a very rare butterfly, the Troides magellanus. It's so rare it's been called the "phantom butterfly." The legend goes that whoever catches this butterfly will become a phantom themselves. Back in Japan, Tomoharu's daughter, Ame, hasn't received a phone call from her father in days and begins to worry. However, when Tomoharu does return, he has no recollection of how he got back to Japan, or what happened at all. Ame notices strange things beginning to happen all around her . . . With the help of his neighbor Akiko, Tomoharu begins to piece together what happened back in Taiwan, and comes to a horrifying conclusion.
