40-year-old Obika Taro is a single father and a struggling novelist. Nicknamed Gataro, he raised his daughter Sakura alone after his beloved wife Sachiko died from an illness. Father and daughter get along well. But Gataro is worried sick about Sakura attending a coed university since his pure and innocent daughter has only gone to all girls’ schools. He loves her so much that he decides to take the entrance exam for the same university and enroll in the same faculty as a fellow student. Fearing that his work will be affected, Gataro hides the fact that he has become a university student from his editor Ozaki. On the first day of school, he keeps a close eye on the male students to make sure no undesirable ones cling to Sakura. However, he appears suspicious to Professor Omura, who is the professor in charge, and gets hauled up quickly. In the meantime, Sakura heads to the university cafeteria with an outspoken schoolmate Yamamoto Hiroko whom she met at the enrollment ceremony. They share a table with the handsome Hatakeyama Masaharu and thrifty Eto Misaki. But Sakura is struck by love and freezes at the sight of Masaharu being firm with an arrogant senior. As shock runs through the students who discover that both father and daughter have enrolled in the university, Gataro chooses to join extra curricular activities with Sakura to guard her. He involves himself in everything that she does such as seminars, interest groups, drinking sessions, matchmaking parties and cultural festivals. In the process, he finds himself enjoying his “youth” to the fullest.

Matsumoto Shouen entered monkhood because he could not rescue his childhood friend who was drowning right in front of him when he was a kid. Toyoko doesn't know how to love her daughter Terue and subjects the latter to physical abuse when she was a child. As a result, Terue was hungry for love but didn't know how to be loved. Eiji Asai (Toshiaki Karasawa) is a public officer. He is sent to Kagura Village in Hoshikawa City. More than half of the village residents are older than 65 and the average annual income is only 870,000 yen. Eiji Asai encourages the public officers there and the residents to revive the village.

A 30-year-old single detective (Nagase Tomoya), who is under the illusion that he is popular with females is called 'Unubore' by friends. He is an ultra romantic and susceptible to conceitedness. He has such a strong desire to marry to the extent that he has bought an apartment for his newlywed life. He falls in love with female criminals at first sight each time. While the sheer desire to meet wraps around him, he will get proof that the female is the culprit. And so, he will thrust both the arrest warrant and marriage papers at her, proposing with the words, "If you marry me, I won’t arrest you." If that still does not work, he will hold out an engagement ring and his handcuffs. In the end, the criminal will choose to be arrested and his heart will be broken. He will cry as he puts the handcuffs on her.

High school student Kyosuke Shikijo (Ryohei Suzuki) is the most talented member of the school's martial arts of the fist club. His late father was detective and Kyosuke share his father's strong sense of justice. Kyosuke also has a secret. Kyosuke likes to wear female underwear and transforms himself into the alter ego "Pervert Mask," wearing female underwear and gaining superhuman powers. This unusual interest also comes from his parents, with his father a masochist and his mother a sadist. By chance, Kyosuke gets the underwear of female high school student Aiko Himeno's (Fumika Shimizu). With her underwear, he gains various pervert techniques and attempts to protect Aiko from a dirty and heinous teacher (Ken Yasuda).

Saori, Yukko, Garuru, Nakanishi and Akemi are high school students at a provincial city and members of a playgroup at their school. Yoshioka, who used to perform in plays when she was in college back in Tokyo, begins to work at the same high school as a new teacher. When the girls decide to compete in a play competition, with the goal to make it through the regionals, teacher Yoshioka tells them they're aiming low and that they should think about the national competition.

Summer Time Machine Blues is based around a group of friends in a science-fiction club who spend their days fooling around at the clubhouse. The boys play a game of baseball as their friend Yui Ito takes pictures of them nearby. After the game, the boys return to the clubhouse and head off to the bathhouse leaving the girls, Yui and Haruka to develop their pictures. While they bathe, Niimi gets angry because he thinks someone stole his Vidal Sassoon shampoo. On their way back, Takuma decides to sneak off to buy tickets at the theater for a sci-fi B movie. He hopes that he can ask Haruka out. Haruka says that she does not want to go out with him since he apparently has a girlfriend, but Takuma has no idea what she is talking about. But when he returns to the clubhouse, his friends act very strangely as to where he has been. They make him explain what happened, but through a series of chain events, Daigo accidentally spills Coke all over the air-conditioner remote control after being hit in the face. Everyone rushes to try to clean the remote off, but it's too late. The remote is broken and they cannot turn on the air-conditioner. This immediately becomes a problem as the day becomes hotter.

The remote apparently cannot be repaired as it is too old, so the boys give it to their club advisor to try to fix. They look for a fan in the meantime but only find broken ones. Back at the clubhouse, the boys discover a strange boy in the room who hurriedly escapes, leaving behind some sort of machine. They put Sago on the time machine thinking it is a practical joke on the sci-fi club, but to their surprise it actually works. Sago appears in a picture of their baseball game that they held yesterday. They fool around discovering that it is a time machine. The boys decide to travel to the past to steal the remote control before it was broken and bring it back to the present. But as soon as they step back one day, they run into problems beyond their control.

While Daigo, Niimi and Shunsuke go back in time to retrieve the remote. The strange guy is revealed to be Tamura who is a member of the sci-fi 25 years in the future. Tamura gets sent to the past the same way Sago was coerced onto the machine. The remaining members, Haruka, Sago, Yui, and Takuma take Tamura on a tour of the past. While on the tour they encounter their club adviser, Professor Kohtaro Hozumi, who explains that changing the past results in the grandfather paradox and would cause the universe to vanish. Realizing this the remaining club members rush back to ensure that the Daigo, Niimi, and Shunsuke do not change the past. Daigo and Shunsuke gets sent back to the present but they return shortly with Tamura after being informed about the situation. They find the time machine waiting for them when they get back to the club room. Sago and Takuma go to the past and prevent the trio from changing the past. In the process Sago wraps the remote in tape and gets transported to 99 years into the past to prevent the caretaker from discovering the time machine. The school being originally a swarm, Sago almost drowns before returning to the present. The past villagers mistaken him as a Kappa and Kappas becomes integral to the town culture. Sago also loses the remote 99 years in the past.

Takuma finds Niimi at the bathhouse and in a twist it is revealed that Niimi himself took the shampoo. With the remote missing Tamura goes into his future to retrieve the future's remote so that the past won't be altered. Everyone gets on the time machine but the machine is too small and Takuma gets knocked off. Takuma deceive the past club members who mistakenly believe that he has a girlfriend due to a voice message Takuma sent to the "present Sago" which "past Sago" received. Takuma distracts the club members but before he can leave his past self enters the club room. With no other options Takuma hides in the club room locker. The present club members return and notice that Takuma is not with them, but Takuma is already in the present having spent the whole day in the locker. A dog digs up a remote which is revealed to have survived for 99 years in mud and the remote still works. Tamura returns to his present but forgets his camera. When he returns for it he says that it belonged to his mother and Takuma and Yui note that Haruka also possess a similar camera. When they met, Tamura notes that his mother also attended this college. Takuma and Yui deduce that Tamura is the son of future Haruka.

Professor Kohtaro Hozumi is inspired by these events to build a time machine which might explain the time machine's origins since Tamura and his club members also did not know the machine's origins.

Since Takuma's girlfriend was revealed a lie, Haruka agrees to go on a date with Takuma. Takuma wonders how he can change his name (presumably to Tamura).

Boulangerie Kurebayashi, a bakery at Sangenjaya is open from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. It is a small, queer shop that is run by owner Kurebayashi Yosuke and baker Yanagi Hiroki. Six months ago, Yosuke suddenly went from high-flying salaryman to owner and apprentice of this newly started bakery. He seems unskilled but looks happy learning to make bread. It is not just that. He looks happy being a baker. One night a female high school student called Nozomi suddenly turns up at Boulangerie Kurebayashi. Then she makes a declaration that sounds like a lie. “I’m the younger sister of Kurebayashi Miwako. I would like your hospitality from today.” Kurebayashi’s wife Miwako died six months earlier. Set in the early 1980's, Moyuru (Yuya Yagira) is a student at an art school in Osaka. He is full of passion and desire in his pursuit to become a manga writer. He also doesn't lack confidence in his abilities. Morinaga Tonko (Yamamoto Mizuki) is Honoo's senior at school and the manager of the badminton team which Honoo belongs to. Right before summer vacation, Moyuru makes a decision. He decides to take his manga manuscripts to a publishing company in Tokyo.

Sugimuro Saburo is the son-in-law of Imada Concern's group Chairman, and is currently working as the assistant editor of the the in-house newsletter. One day, on the way back to the office after an interview with ex-board member Mori Nobuhiro, Saburo, his chief editor, Sonoda and his staff, Tejima, are caught in a bus hijack. Together on the bus with them are Tanaka Yuichiro, a metal foundry manager; Sakoda Toyoko, an elderly houewife; Sakamoto Kei, a university drop-out; Maeno Mei, an aspiring patissier; and Shibano Kazuko, the bus driver. The hijacker, Sato Ichiro, had planned well, leaving Saburo and everyone else, no room for escape. He instructs them to call the police, and tells them that he will pay them compensation monies when all has ended. Who is this man, Sato Ichiro, and what are his true objectives? Who is his intended hostage?

Uno Meiko is the daughter of parents who run a western style restaurant in Tokyo. She marries and moves to Osaka with her husband. Meiko experiences cultural differences between Tokyo and Osaka, as she lives as a mother and wife in Osaka.

Domoto Tsuyoshi plays the lead character Tenma who has inherited the power to get into contact with spirits but is afraid of his ability to do that. Out of no choice, he has to take on the position of the president of an exorcism company. Kawaguchi Haruna and Minagawa Sarutoki will be Tenma's assistants in his "ghost-busting" missions. Serina will play an elder woman in the neighbourhood who chases Tenma around while Sato Jiro plays Tenma's late father who communicates with Tenma through his dreams.

Sugimura (Koizumi) works as an editor at the public relations department in the Imada Konzern. One day, the chairman, and his father-in-law, Yoshichika (Mikijiro Hira), asks him to support the daughters of his personal driver who died in an accident. The driver was killed in a hit-and-run accident by a bicycle, but the criminal hasn't been caught yet. The younger daughter Riko (Nao Minamisawa) is eager to find the suspect by writing a book about her father's life. But the older daughter Satomi (Kyoko Fukada) opposes the idea, and explains why by telling Sugimura about her father's dark past...

Masayoshi Hayakawa (Joe Odagiri) was once a popular member of rock band "Out of Justice," but after the breakup of the band 13 years ago Masayoshi Hayakawa's life has become a mess. He drinks alcohol a lot now and does a live 30 minute radio show in the early mornings, while occasionally attending fan meetings.

One day, Masayoshi Hayakawa meets two young girls, and a young boy, all in middle school, and learns that he is the father of the girls. He begins to take care of the girls and boy, but has to hide their existence from his management office, who are just looking for an excuse to drop him from his contract. Through the children, Masayoshi Hayakawa is able to grow as a person and mature.

When a mysterious plague spreads ancient Japan, a pure young man named Yoshihiko (Takayuki Yamada) is chosen to save his village. He sets out with his friends to find a legendary plant to stop the plague and also find his father who never returned after embarking on the same journey.

Todo Maki, a rookie lawyer, joins a law office run by seven female attorneys who work to help women who have become victims of crime. Todo eagerly goes to work, but when her boss Sugimura Misako assigns her to a case, she discovers there is still much to learn about practicing law. Under the guidance of her six more experienced colleagues, she discovers what it means to be a lawyer.
