In 2013, Ko Osawa (Sho Sakurai) works as sous-chef at a first-class hotel. He cooks French cuisine. His job at the hotel requires him to cook for hundreds of customers, but Ko Osawa prefers to cook for a single customer. One day, he happens to see a pamphlet inquiring about a chef available to work at a diplomat office. Ko ends up taking the job and quits his job at the hotel. 2 years later, Ko now works as the chef at the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam. Ko then takes part in a cook-off against the chef at the French Embassy.

Inspector Umizuki Chinami (Takei Emi) is a career elite and yet treated as a burden. It has been one year since she was assigned to the Eighteenth Section of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division as a rookie detective. But this weighs on Chinami’s mind. Before long, she finds out the source of the gun that was used to shoot Sugimoto. This brings her to Kanto Natsume-kai. For some reason, Yuta’s mother is there. She learns that Yuta’s father, Akiba (Hakamada Yoshihiko), a skilled workman, was abducted by Kanto Natsume-kai and made to be a dealer at an illegal casino. Sugimoto had run up debt of 20 million yen at this casino. They finally establish a link to the case and think that the case can be solved. But it is not that simple. The illegal casino has been taking place at the embassy which Japanese police cannot enter because of diplomatic immunity. Chinami has until April to solve the case. The members of the Eighteenth Section, who have quickly learnt about Chinami’s transfer, work hard in an attempt to send her off without bringing dishonour to her name, but they have just one month … …

It is the Spring of 1814. The restaurant "Tsuru-ka" is gaining much popularity after its chef, Mio, won the prestigious cooking competition. One day, the owner of "Tsuru-ka", Taneichi, employed young Fuki to be the attendant for customers' shoes. Mio could fully empathize with young Fuki, who was an orphan and yet was courageous enough to survive on her own. Around the same time, the famous novelist Seiemon started coming to "Tsuru-ka". Even though Seiemon criticized Mio's cooking each time, he always returned to the restaurant daily. Remembering the words spoken by the samurais that had last seen Komatsubara, "Tokei no Ma", Mio was very tempted to ask Seiemon the meaning of the words! Meantime, "Tsuru-ka"'s rival restaurant, "Toryuro" was always serving food that was similar to Mio's latest creation. Even before Mio had a chance to offer them on "Tsuru-ka"'s menu. It happened repeatedly, which left Mio puzzled and troubled by it all. To add to her worries, Mio heard from Mataji that her dear childhood friend, Noe, who is one of the top oiran (prostitutes) in Yoshiwara (red-light district of Edo), was injured while trying to protect another prostitute from being slashed by a patron. Mio's despair at not having been able to help Noe escape her fate at Yoshiwara all those years ago threatened to overwhelm her completely. Especially since her fellow housemate, O-Ryo's son was stricken by the life-threatening measles at the same time...

Takeshiro Shikota is a 27-year-old pediatrician in Hokkaido, Japan. He was born and raised in Hokkaido. One day, Takeshiro is transferred to the newly established PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). The unit is for children under the age of 15 who require advance and intensive treatment. There, he meets Dr. Hajime Ueno. Hajime is a pioneer in his field and hopes to establish PICU all over Japan. His goal is to bring sick children to PICU as quickly as possible and accept them under any circumstances. Meeting with Hajim, changes Takeshiro life as a pediatrician.

In 1996, after the collapse of Japan's asset price bubble, Shibasaki Akira works in the loan department for the Yotsubashi branch office of Aoba Bank. One day, he is sent to work at a government-run company, which is a housing financial bond management organization. The company was formed to collect non-performing loans from bankrupt housing loan companies. Workers from different banks, including Akira and ex-employees from housing loan companies, gather at the government-run company. Sayama Taku is a doctor and runs Sayama Kodomo Clinic, which specializes in child psychiatry. Even though his family owns a general hospital, he refuses to get involved in their general hospital. Instead, Sayama Taku has taken over the small clinic, located in the suburbs, which his aunt operated. His family views his behavior as an act of betrayal. Sayama Taku's personal reason for running the clinic is because he has ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and he understands the patients at his clinic more than anyone. He values the time he has to face the child patients.

Tono Shiho is a medical intern at Sayama Kodomo Clinic. When she worked as a medical intern in the pediatrics department of a university hospital, she kept getting into trouble and her preceptor finally told her to give up on becoming a pediatrician. Making things worse, she learned that she has ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). She thought about giving up on becoming a doctor. At that time, Sayama Taku reached out to her and let her work at his clinic.

Kamizuru Ryoko, a brilliant female detective who is a master in disguises, teams up with Takayama Nobuhiko, a young man who has an IQ of 140 but is uncomfortable in the presence of women. She fulfils all manner of requests except for murder and assault cases, but her request fee is a high price at 2 million yen.

Kiyama joins the agency after a chance encounter, and though he appears perfect at first glance, he has an extreme area of weakness when talking to women. He is drawn in by the absurdly unpredictable methods of the Detective Agency and utilizes his brilliant mind to support Kamizuru, who is willing to use any means at her disposal, and the combination of the two leads them to solve cases in the most lively way.

Komukai Riko is a young single woman and works for an event planning company. She is considered average in regards to her personality and appearance. One day, her co-worker mentions person of a mass production model. Komukai Riko asks herself if she could be such a person for a mass production model and she answers her question affirmatively. Around this time, she happens to see plastic model Zaku at a neighborhood store. Zaku is a robot from TV anime series Mobile Suit Gundam. She becomes interested in plastic models and challenges herself to make her first plastic model.

Hakamada Yukio is a competent, mysterious lawyer who only handles settlement cases because of past experiences. Although his scathing words get on clients’ nerves, his primary consideration is their welfare. His philosophy that “love is something that can never be bought with money. But if a client is able to have genuine resolve, I’ll certainly get the compensation and give the push for a fresh start” is the basis for the problems that he solves one after another.

Komukai Riko is the family's second daughter, with an elder sister who is sturdy and a younger sister who is more free-spirited. Riko was working briefly in Tokyo when she returned to her parent's residence after her grandfather died.

While rummaging through her stuff on the roof where the family has gathered for the first time in four years, Riko comes across a half-completed plastic model. Riko was guided by Yassan to the Yajima model shop where her grandfather used to go, and she decided to make her first plastic model.

Riko, feeling that she knows a little more about her grandfather and family, resolves to spend the summer at her parent's house so she can do what her grandfather regrets.
