Song Zhu, the third young miss of the Song family, rebels against arranged marriages in pursuit of true love. She is the odd one out in a family of intellectuals. Meanwhile, the black-bellied Xiao Yu hides his identity to study at the academy. Song Zhu and Xiao Yu develop an immediate dislike for each other upon meeting that eventually blossoms into a sweet romance.

The Song family is well-known for producing a long line of scholars. There is no one in their family who isn't a literary prodigy except for the third daughter Song Zhu. Aside from being a pretty face, she has not inherited any of her parents' good qualities. The more it seems to be the case, the less Song Zhu seems to care about learning. Wanting to escape from everyone's shadow, Song Zhu has been trying to get herself married, that is, until she met "the womanizer" Xiao Yu who has completely disrupted her plans.

Xiao Yu is the bane to Song Zhu's existence. As long as he is around, there will be disaster. In the 80's of 20th century, Gao Ji Lin, a young man living in Gaojiagou in northern Shaanxi, was a well-known reading "champion" in the village. God of Lost Fantasy tells the story of Qin Wen Tian, a broken man who seeks revenge for the assassination of his family. He discovers and joins a renowned martial arts sect. While there, Qin Wen Tian meets the former crown prince whose brother had staged a coup and driven him out of the palace. He also joins up with the master's daughter to aid the former crown prince.

In the capital, however, he gets entangled in the intrigues of the Emperor and the two Princes, as well as the Overwatch Department, leading to him questioning his whole identity and inducing him to find his true life goals, abandoning his original intention to just "enjoy life".
