Han Dong Soo is a livelihood lawyer. He randomly picks a prisoner to visit and picks up a case. He is usually rational and reasonable, but deep within his mind exists a dark side. Something triggers him to cross the line and step into the world of evil. His younger half-brother is Han Beom Jae. Han Beom Jae works at a second-hand computer shop and he also acts as a case broker for Han Dong-soo, bringing him clients. One day, Han Beom Jae notices that Han Dong Soo has changed since he brought him a case.

That case involves Seo Do Young who is the #2 ranked member of a crime organization. He is a former baseball player and appears nothing like a typical gangster. Behind his handsome looks, he hides a cruel and unpredictable madness.

The novel also adapted into the chinese television series “Scarlet Heart” which was aired in Hunan Broadcasting System (HBS) from 2011-Sep-10 to 2011-Sep-29 and also “Scarlet Heart 2” which was aired in Zhejiang STV (ZJTV) from 2014-Apr-22 to 2014-May-07.

This drama was fully pre-produced before airing which is a departure from the live-shoot production format that characterizes most Korean dramas. The Filming Began on 2016-Jan and Completed on 2016-June-30. The series will be simulcast in China.

Jong-Dae (Lee Min-Ho) and Yong-Ki (Kim Rae-Won) grew up in an orphanage like real brothers. After they leave the orphanage, they make a living by picking up paper and empty bottles. Jong-Dae then becomes involved in a struggle of interests over development in Gangnam, Seoul. In the process, he lives with Gil-Soo (Jung Jin-Young) and Sun-Hye (Seol Hyun) as they accept Jong-Dae like a family member. Jong-Dae also becomes a gang member.

Three men have been friends since their school days. They do some something, believing it would be nice, but that act connects to them a crime and their friendship ends. Hyun-Tae (Ji Sung) works as a paramedic and has one daughter. He has a strong sense for justice. In-Chul (Ju Ji-Hoon) works as an insurance agent, but is known as a swindler. Min-Soo (Lee Kwang-Soo) runs a small business. He relies on his two good friends like family.

Jung Seok is a librarian who goes about his daily life with everything planned down to the second. Having obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, he wakes up, crosses the road, visits the convenience store and goes to bed at the same time every day. Whenever he sees anything out of place, he can't help himself but rectify it, a trait that is particularly irksome to his co-workers.

Jung Seok develops a crush for a local convenience store's cashier who demonstrates a similar attention to order and cleanliness. Besides, Lee Mi-Rye (Ko Ah-Sung), who was very close with Kim Byeong-Gook, they seem to be hiding something. Detective Jong-Hoon checks the CCTV system and observes Kim Byeong-Gook returning to work after the murders, but he can't locate when he left the office. Meanwhile, the co-workers at the office become shaken with anxiety over Kim Byeong-Gook's whereabouts.
