Legal apprentice Okumori Rei is on the verge of getting married when he is cornered by someone due to a past secret. Eight years ago, during the summer when Rei was a third-year junior high school student, he killed his father Kosuke and made it look like he went missing in order to protect his mother Akiko from domestic violence. Toda and Miura play two teachers, Natsumi Uemura and Shuji Kashiwagi, at the same high school who are set to get married in half a year. However, the night before the school year's opening ceremony, Shuji becomes involved with the young Hikari Saeki (played by Takei), without realizing that she will be a student in his class starting the next day.

As Shuji struggles to help Hikari deal with the mental complex she is suffering from, he is also torn inside by his betrayal of Natsumi. Meanwhile, Hikari attempts to get closer to Natsumi, driven by feelings of jealousy and a desire to destroy the couple's relationship.

Aoishi Hanae is a plain, inconspicuous office lady who has had no experience in love and no boyfriend. On her 30th birthday, she happens to end up drinking with Tanokura Yuto, a cool university student nine years her junior who is also a part-timer at her company, on the way home from a welcome party for new employees. Hanae gets drunk. When she wakes up the next morning, she finds a naked Yuto sleeping next to her. She has her first experience and first boyfriend out of the blue. Even when Hanae and Yuto go on to date, it is a daily process of trial and error because everything is a first for Hanae, including an amusement park date, a sleepover, Christmas Eve or a couple’s trip. Kamizuru Ryoko, a brilliant female detective who is a master in disguises, teams up with Takayama Nobuhiko, a young man who has an IQ of 140 but is uncomfortable in the presence of women. She fulfils all manner of requests except for murder and assault cases, but her request fee is a high price at 2 million yen.

Kiyama joins the agency after a chance encounter, and though he appears perfect at first glance, he has an extreme area of weakness when talking to women. He is drawn in by the absurdly unpredictable methods of the Detective Agency and utilizes his brilliant mind to support Kamizuru, who is willing to use any means at her disposal, and the combination of the two leads them to solve cases in the most lively way.

In this tale of bravery and honor among the roving gamblers of old Japan, the heroic Jirocho, Boss of the Tokaido is called upon to help a young yakuza named Eijiro after he runs afoul of the new samurai officials who have taken over his hometown. Expertly portrayed by Kitaoji Kinya (son of the all-time great star Ichikawa Utaemon), this young man stands up for the townspeople and puts his life on the line. Jirocho, played by superstar Nakamura Kinnosuke, a boss known for his honor and valor soon finds himself involved in the feud which will only end in a brutal showdown.

Komukai Riko is the family's second daughter, with an elder sister who is sturdy and a younger sister who is more free-spirited. Riko was working briefly in Tokyo when she returned to her parent's residence after her grandfather died.

While rummaging through her stuff on the roof where the family has gathered for the first time in four years, Riko comes across a half-completed plastic model. Riko was guided by Yassan to the Yajima model shop where her grandfather used to go, and she decided to make her first plastic model.

Riko, feeling that she knows a little more about her grandfather and family, resolves to spend the summer at her parent's house so she can do what her grandfather regrets.
