After etching his vision of Gu Long's popular novel on the public consciousness in the hugely successful 'The Sentimental Swordsman', Chu Yuan inevitably returned with this star-studded sequel, reuniting with Ti Lung once again. Our eponymous hero is this time faced with even more colourful and duplicitous rivals, each with their own desperate desire to rule the martial world.Having fended off the 'Plum Blossom Bandit', heroic, yet melancholy swordsman Li goes into hiding for a few years while his loyal ally Fei (Yee) decides to settle down. This relative peace is shattered when the dreaded 'Money Clan' set their sights on ruling the martial world and see Li as a potential obstacle. To alleviate themselves of this impediment, the clan decide to call on the services of a fearsome swordsman (Fu Sheng) who is also eager to cement his reputation throughout the country. While Li battles his inner demons and his new enemies, Fei is turned every which way but loose by a ruthless seductress who is secretly at the servitude of the 'Money Clan'. Initially, 'Return Of The Sentimental Swordsman' seems to be going through the motions. The scenarios penned by Gu Long and brought to the screen by Chu Yuan have a ring of familiarity about them that seasoned viewers will immediately identify: the hero is challenged, succeeds, moves on, is then challenged again etc. These plot-devices are part-and-parcel of this particular sub-genre and are in danger of becoming stale before the film progresses much further. Sure enough, 'Return Of The Sentimental Swordsman' drags itself through the first twenty minutes, throwing our hero into rather uninspired situations. It is then, though, that Chu Yuan begins to dig beneath the text and open up the underbelly of the martial world.

All There Will Be (2020)

Students, including Nishino Aoi, take part in class and sports activity at a prestigious high school. Aoi is a member of the school's archery club. He practices archery studiously and doesn't socialise much with the other students. His childhood friend Seno Haruka is also a member of the archery club, but she worries about Aoi. One day, thunder strikes the school grounds. After that, the ordinary lives of the students changes drastically. Many samurai descend on the school grounds. It appears that the entire school has travelled back in time to the Sengoku period. Making things worse, they realise that they are in the time right before the Battle of Okehazama takes place.

Seok Ho was a child genius but now lives an average life as a high school math teacher. When his new neighbor, Hwa Sun, moves into the apartment next door, she becomes his new obsession. One day, Suk Go witnesses Hwa Sun murder her ex-husband during a violent encounter. He puts his math skills to the test as he calculates the perfect alibi for her crime. Thanks to Suk Go’s impeccably crafted crime, Hwa Sun even passes the polygraph test and the police have no choice but to let her go. However, the detective assigned to the case, Min Sun, detects something strange and is unable to drop Hwa Sun as his prime suspect.

There is a rumor of a website called "Hell Correspondence" which only opens at twelve midnight sharp. When a user types the name of a person to be gotten rid of, a hell girl Ai Enma brings the person to the hell. In return, the user will be sent down to hell at the end of his or her life. A high school girl Miho is worried about her friend Haruka being trapped in the evil scheme of a popular rock band after Haruka joins the audition and starts acting strange. As Miho tries to help her friend, she finds herself in the cursed world behind the "Hell Correspondence".

Madame Tang colludes and mediates between the government and the private businesses for the benefits of her all-female family. One case does not go according to plan, and an entire family close to Madame Tang fall victim to a gruesome murder. Ambition, desire and lust eventually change Tang's relationships with her own family forever.

The hero, Satoru Nomura (Yuji Oda), is young, with most of a brilliant career still ahead of him, but has little feeling, save condescension, for the people he is supposed to serve. Instead he has been slaving on a huge seaside development for the elderly that, if given the green light (or rather, the right hanko), will put him on the inside track to the top, where he knows he belongs. He is also preparing to marry the beautiful daughter of a construction company president who holds all the keys to the political and bureaucratic kingdoms.

Some of the locals, however, have been raising a rumpus about the project and, to keep the peace, the prefectural powers-that-be set up a sort of exchange program for elite young bureaucrats, who are dispatched to local businesses to observe, learn and even serve.

Nomura is sent to Mantendo, a third-rate supermarket sliding into oblivion. His trainer, Aki Ninomiya (Ko Shibasaki), is a hard-shelled part-timer in her mid-20s who takes an immediate dislike to him. Clearly, someone has made a mistake.

Rather than try to make nice with his new colleagues and customers, Nomura stays as rigid as the manuals he lives by. He knows better than these peasants, even though he knows nothing. Ninomiya, on the other hand, is a straightforward, down-to-earth type who kowtows to no one, not even Kencho-san (Nomura's moniker among the store employees, which translates as Mr. Prefectural Government). These two butt heads from day one -- and it soon becomes obvious the entire store agrees with Ninomiya: The new guy is a cross they have to bear and keep, as much as possible, out of the way.
