On Sado Island, Kii works as a cleaner at a gold mine. One day, she finds a collapsed woman in the facility and takes the woman to her home. The woman doesn't remember her past or even her name. The woman is named Midori by the two other girls living with Kii. Kii gets permission from the director for Midori to work as a cleaner at the mine. One day, Midori is attracted by the presence of cats and this leads her to meet Ao, who works as a night guard at the gold mine. Ao tells her that he also doesn't remember his past. Midori and Ao get attracted to each other and spend time together. One day, Midori meets Murasaki who seems to have a close relationship with Ao. This disturbs Midori.

Su-an, a performing arts high school student, becomes close with Seol, an actress and celebrity. During a trip, they realize that they have feelings for each other. However, misunderstandings pile up too much, and Seol leaves Su-an. Su-an later becomes an actress and returns to the winter sea, longing for Seol.

Producer and star of the film Yasuaki Kurata wanted to make a film with a female protagonist which led to an idea about making a vampire film.[1] Kurata hired director Takanori Tsujimoto as it was his first horror film he worked on and Tsujimoto was known for his horror films.[1] Kurata gave Tsujimoto the elements he wanted in the film (vampires, female protagonists and opportunities for extended action fight scenes) and had him build a story around them.[1] Screenwriter Eiichi Yonekawa wrote a script involving two police detectives in Tokywo who are trying to catch the serial killer. Using it as a framework, Tsujimoto added large elements that would involve fake blood.[1] The action scenes in the film were inspired by Hong Kong action cinema. Kurata compared the Hong Kong style to the Japanese style by saying that “Hong Kong films are about over-action, or overdoing it; whereas Japanese action is often too subtle. It doesn’t satisfy the audience in the same way. I prefer Hong Kong style myself, but keep in mind that wire work was not used in Hong Kong until ‘Chinese Ghost Story’ (1987). My production company introduced wire action to Japanese films, about nine years ago, in a film called ‘Yellow Dragon’.”

A comic book storekeeper, Dae Man, and the legendary homicide detective, Tae Soo, who met on the previous case quit their jobs to open a private detective agency. Despite their high hopes, they soon find themselves with only trivial cases such as spouse infidelity, unpaid debt, and missing cats.

Then one day, a woman walks into the office, wanting to find the truth behind the death of her fiance. Not only that, she also offers them a handsome reward of 50,000 dollars. Dae Man and Tae Soo see it as an opportunity to put their true detective skills to work. They bring onboard a third member, Yeochi, a Mensa genius and a small-time online private eye, and together they launch a full-fledged investigation on the case.

As they dig into what initially appeared to be a straightforward case, a disturbing new piece of evidence turns up.

This film revolves around the life of Choi Shi Hyong, head of the religious sect, Chondogyo, in the later part of the Chosun Kingdom. He is constantly sought and harassed by the authorities. In 1864, Choi Jeh Woo, the reformist and founder of the Chondogyo sect is executed on charges of 'deluding the world and deceiving the people'. His successor, Choi Shi Hyong, begins to receive a ground swell of support from an increasing number of people. He then finds himself the subject of oppression by the court. He is separated from his family and goes to hide in a hermitage in the Taeback Mountains. With the belief that his wife is dead, Choi burns the tablet dedicated to her and flees to an even more remote region of the mountains.
