In the early days of the Republic, legendary martial artist Ye Ruzhou suffers a severe injury, losing her memory and winding up in the impoverished alley of Minfu Lane. The Purple Lagoon, the newest internet sensation on the resort island, has attracted many tourists, but the Purple Lagoon has swallowed several of them. When the only daughter of the richest man in a Southeast Asian country goes missing for no apparent reason, war correspondent Bai Yu investigates and biologists and "crocodile hunters" confirm that the richest man's daughter has died in the mouth of a crocodile. The richest man vows to hunt the crocodile at all costs to avenge his daughter's death.

The film tells two parallel stories, one about the life of a street vendor following the death of his father; the other about a woman he meets briefly as she heads off on a trip of uncertain duration to Paris. Lee's character, who sells watches on the streets of Taipei, sells his own watch to Chen and then finds himself overcome by a desire to set every clock he sees to Paris time.

When Jiro Sawada (Kenichi Matsuyama) was a sophomore in high school he was framed for something he did not do. Afterwards, he left his hometown in a small village in Fukushima Prefecture. After the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, Jiro Sawada goes back to his hometown, when nobody is able to live there, and begins to live there again. His separated family begin to reunite.
