The story follows a young man who has been single for a year after his boyfriend suddenly disappeared without a formal breakup. One night, while scrolling through a dating app, he encounters someone who looks strikingly similar to his ex. After a spontaneous hookup, he discovers that this new acquaintance is actually his ex’s twin brother. In 1978, Eun-Joo, a child from a wealthy family, is kidnapped. Her kidnapper though doesn't make contact with the parents. Eun-Joo's mother and aunt then seek out various fortunetellers for help. The only fortuneteller to tell them that Eun-Joo is still alive is Kim Joong-San (Yu Hae-Jin). Kim Joong-San also recommends to the women that they get in touch with Detective Kong Gil-Yong (Kim Yun-Seok) for his help. Detective Kong Gil-Yong doesn't want to become involved the case, but he agrees to do so. He advises Eun-Joo's parents to keep the investigation private. Publicity could place Eun-Joo in more danger. Detective Kong Gil-Yong doesn't trust the fortuneteller, but he predicts things that come out to be true, including that the kidnapper will get in touch with the parents on the 15th day after her disappearance. With a picture that the kidnapper sends on the 15th day, Detective Kong Gil-Yong and Kim Joong-San are certain Eun-Joo is still alive.

"The Rope Curse 2" focuses on the Zhong Kui dance portion of the ritual, where a Taoist priest assumes the spirit of Zhong, a deity who is known for his abilities to vanquish evil spirits and ghosts. Other supernatural beliefs are added into the mix, including yizi gu divination practice through summoning the spirit of a murdered young girl as well as a spine-chilling dose of Thai black magic.

The movie follows Huo Ge, who is a troubled man blessed (or cursed) with the ability to see supernatural beings. His spirit is broken after inadvertently killing his master, who taught him how to perform exorcisms. He begrudgingly agrees to play the part of Zhong Kui during a song rou zong ritual to save a village from a Thai spirit that is causing villagers to hang themselves.

"You were granted a prize." A mysterious man who calls himself the Guardian told me as we were standing on the outer wall of the hospital building that was turned sideways as if we were defying gravity.

Before I could take in what happened, the Guardian grabbed me by my collar, forcing me to listen to him explain about the prize that a stray spirit like me was given. I was sent to live again in the body of a high school teenager named Min who was lying dead in the morgue in this hospital. In fact, living in a new body is no different to living in a homestay. It’s temporary and not for free. Within 100 days, I have to find out “who is responsible for Min’s death”. If I fail, I will die and leave this homestay for eternity.

Actually, I didn’t think I would enjoy living in this homestay this much. Having a new family and new friends doesn’t make my heart beat as fast as when I met Pie, Min’s tutoring peer.
