I was fortunate enough to attend the International Premiere of "Life Can Be So Wonderful" at the Miami Film Festival this year. At the premiere Director Osamu Minorikawa presented a question and answer session after the movie to explain his creative process behind the film. He described his movie as turning pages through the lives of five wandering Japanese people. It is perhaps better to address this movie as five different movies, presented in a way that was incredibly different and fresh to me--movie poetry. Each of the five movie poems followed the mundane life of a person living in Japan. The first, a nude model, is a woman who is tangled in the beauty of modeling for art, its connotations, and her desire to be a muse of art. The poem incorporated a weave of images that captured different visual aspects of her story--interview-like images of the woman talking on a couch, lush plants outside the subway station that she passed everyday, and other flashes of scenes that portrayed her thoughts. While there was an absence of plot throughout the majority of the poems, which I can only guess will irk many of those who do not appreciate the essence of poetry, the movie served a different purpose: catering to the visual and auditory senses, Osamu Minorikawa accomplished with film what Ezra Pound managed to do through words. Many of the images will remain to haunt me, others were completely temporary, but it was the sensitivity of the film that really carried it to a different level. While many will disagree with its slow unraveling beauty in a culture of instant gratification and reason, personally, I found this film to be a breath of fresh air and an astounding journey. Not eligible to be branched in the category of Academy Award dramas, the film is of a different genre. The only way to describe the five movie poems of "Life Can Be So Wonderful" would be to compare it to watching the beauty of waves on a beach-- it enables you to see the wonder in life.

An honest scholarly meets Nie Xiaoqian, a woman who is possessed by a fox spirit, yet the two fall madly in love with each other despite the obstacles in their way. A demonic aura pervades the Lanruo Temple. Nie Xiaoqian (Fu Xiao) is possessed by a fox demon and forced to do the bidding of Yecha Lao Lao to victimize travellers. Being good-natured and kind, Xiaoqian feels bad for the things she has to do, but her situation only worsens when she is betrothed to the despicable Hei Shan Lao Yao. When all Xiaoqian can do everyday is to wash her face with tears, a man named Ning Caichen (Li Hao) appears and lifts the burden that she carries in her heart. As the two fall in love, Yan Chixia who is a demon hunter who stop at nothing to rid the world of evil crashes into their lives. What will happen to the tragic lovers?

Two police detectives Numata and Tosaka infiltrate a group of underground black market human organ dealers. Things go haywire during a raid on the group's surgical headquarters. Numata barely escapes, while a wounded Tosaka gets left behind. Through a series of surreal and gory events, the identities of the organ dealers are revealed as Numata plans his revenge.

Dayo Wong stars as top agent Mr. Chan, who suddenly finds himself removed from duties after his partner Wonder Child unintentionally offended a policewoman, Ms. Shek. But when a financial officer goes crazy due to drugs, Mr. Chan is called back in to solve the case, which he accepts even though this means partnering up with Ms. Shek. The two have some ups and downs while working together, eventually leading to romance.

Hikaru Tsutsui is a quiet, unassuming high school student who forsakes the company of his classmates to spend his time reading manga, playing video games, and watching anime. Hikaru is perfectly content to dwell in his 2D world, until one day he's assigned to clean the school pool with the beautiful Iroha Ikarashi, and she confesses her feelings to him. Will Iroha's affection draw Hikaru out of his shell?

The movie is based on the manga of the same name by Nanami Mao, as well as the anime, which was adapted in 2018 and 2019.

A handsome and attractive young man manages to kick start an unprecedented boom in ballroom dancing in the country. No one knows his exact identity, but we at least understand one thing: that his dance is a type of art in itself. A self-asserted true artist Park Pungsik (played by Lee Seongjae) appears as a lady-killer and teacher of ballroom dance. Formerly an ordinary sales person, Pungsik one day happens to meet his high school classmate Mansu (Kim Suro) who has trained in ballroom dance. From that time on, Pungsik is deeply absorbed in the art of dance and decides to go on a long journey across the nation to find real dance masters. After spending five years of learning from them the real essence of dance art, he returns a true master of dance and lures scores of women by teaching them dance. Finally, Pungsik meets a female detective Song Yeonhwa (played by Park Solmi). Though she is dispatched to arrest him, she later ends up helping him. Actor Lee Seongjae utterly transforms himself from a cold-blooded murderer in "Public Enemy" into a mellifluous, charming guy in this movie. The screenplay is based on the short story "A Writer," written by Seong Seokje.

Aces Go Places 2 is another slice of silly action/comedy from director Eric Tsang, which sees Sam Hui reprising his role as a high-tech thief who uses James Bond style gadgets to outwit his enemies. Also returning for this second outing of zany 'fun' are Karl Maka and Sylvia Chang as police officers who once again get involved in the action. Following directly on from Mad Mission, this sequel sees our heroes in all sorts of bother as a US gang attempts to take revenge for the death of villain White Glove. A local gang offers to protect them, but only for a hefty cut of the diamonds which were stolen in the original film.
