The joint Korean-Japanese movie "Virgin Snow",starring Korean actor Lee Joon-ki and Japanese actress Aoi Miyazaki, is a story about a high school student named Min (Lee), who goes to Japan to study and falls in love with a young girl named Naname (Miyazaki), whose melancholic personality captivates his heart. The movie also is entitled "First Love" in Japanese.

Sandy Veloso (Chiu) is a modern-day ugly duckling who is obsessed with her boyfriend Edgardo (Lim). After he breaks with her, Sandy is left to ponder why she feels unwanted. Matters turn worse for Sandy when she is laid off by her company, under the leadership of its new bachelor CEO, Alex Prieto (Lim). Realizing his mistake when employees belatedly put in a good word for Sandy, Alex hires her back, and the two start forming an unlikely friendship. In a love story about "the ugly duckling in all of us and how we turn into someone worth loving," Alex at one point even offers Sandy a make-over so she will no longer cry over a failed relationship.

Tatsuo (Kazuya Takahashi) is an unruly orphan who's been biding his time by working underground in the world of the Yazuka. All is well until a crooked politician has Tatsuo's girlfriend killed, prompting him to concoct a revenge-laden plot against the senator. But when things don't go as planned, Tatsuo finds himself on the run, with only the help of a friendly Peruvian-Japanese cab driver (Koji Yakusho) to keep him going. The film was shown at the 1995 London Film Festival and actor Mickey Curtis won the Kinema Junpo Award award for best supporting actor in 1996 for his work in the film.

Ostensibly inspired by a documentary on a German terrorist group, Edward Yang’s austere third feature discovers, hidden within the stillness of human emotion, a terror far more brutal than any moment of physical violence. Bookended by images of guns and corpses, the film’s true focus is on the violence enacted in everyday relationships, whether between lovers, coworkers, or strangers. The narrative weaves intricately among three scattered groups of characters: a doctor and his novelist wife, a mopey female hoodlum, and a love-struck photographer, all threaded together by one prank phone call and a sense of deceit and lingering entropy. Yang said the film was “built rather like a puzzle; the spectator can rearrange it in his head when he gets home.” It is the inescapable feeling, not the telling, of the story that matters. Indeed, the gunshots at the beginning and end seem interchangeable, almost anticlimactic, rendered quaintly obsolete by the film’s painstakingly traumatic layering of human relations and their emotional violence.
