The story follows a young man who has been single for a year after his boyfriend suddenly disappeared without a formal breakup. One night, while scrolling through a dating app, he encounters someone who looks strikingly similar to his ex. Lam Yee is a school teacher who cannot remember anything happened to her before 15 years old. Discovering her boyfriend has another another woman, Yee attempts to commit suicide, but gives up the idea when she meets a child wandering in the street. Suspecting the child may be one of the students in her school whose parents have suddenly died of a car accident, she takes care of the child as if he is disease. When traditional medical treatment fails to cure the child's sickness Yee brings the child to try a Chinese folk ritual called "soul-calling" - an evil expelling ceremony to cast out the demon that has scared away the child's soul. The ceremony unveils the true identity of the child which, to her surprise, is related to her mysterious past!

Opposites attract, but with unexpected results in this romantic drama set in China in 1978. Li Siping (Li Jie) is a rebellious 18-year-old who lives with his family in Xigandao, a town in Northern China. While the influence of the Cultural Revolution is fading in much of China, that isn't the case in Xigandao, which goes against the grain of Siping's anti-authoritarian nature. Siping doesn't take his job very seriously and would prefer to listen to music than think about his future, an attitude which doesn't sit well with his mother (Zhao Haiyan) and father, who have their hands full with his lackadaisical younger brother (Zhang Dengfeng). A romance grows between the two, but when Siping is drafted into the Army, their relationship is put on hold, and when he returns, he discovers circumstances have changed in unusual ways.

Hiroshi remembers a promise that they made. Hiroshi is even more impatient to find a girlfriend. A beautiful woman named Aya Kato (Nozomi Sasaki) then moves into the neighborhood.
