Before leaving South Korea, he notices the dark side of its society contrasting with its “developed“ image. There, he realizes that economic development does not spell happiness for the people. Although he makes it back home, he receives the same investigations as he did in the south. Then a grave sorrow hits him, trapped in the ideology between the two divided countries against his will.

When the homely 18-year-old Kyomi (Aimi Satsukawa) loses both of her parents to a car wreck, tragedy sets the stage for a seriocomic and occasionally poignant battle-of-wills between the young woman and two of her siblings. So begins Japanese director Daihachi Yoshida's slice-of-life seriocomedy Funukedomo, Kanashimi No Ai Wo Misero (AKA Funuke, Show Some Love You Losers!, 2007). Upon learning of her parents' death, Kyomi's older sister, the financially-strapped and emotionally-troubled actress Sumika (Eriko Sato), hearkens back to the family's bucolic home to collect on a healthy inheritance - but the girls' brother, the woodcutter Shinji (Masatoshi Nagase), informs her of standing legal delays. Thus, Sumika moves into the house (occupying her childhood room) and waits out an indeterminate period of time, unable to foot the cost of a return to Tokyo. Dae-Hee (Yoon Je-Moon) is a low level city government employee in the Mapo district of Seoul. His department handles various issues like trash, noise, and public safety. Dae-Hee isn't married, nor does he have a girlfriend at the moment. He also doesn't have many hobbies. Dae-Hee enjoys memorizing facts from books to impress his colleagues and watching television until falling asleep. You can say he is conservative and his job at the city government office suits him well. Within the Mapo district lies the Hongdae area famous for the thriving indie rock music scene. Dae-Hee leaves with a co-worker to talk with a band who has received numerous complaints from neighbors about loud noise in a residential neighborhood. The band is practicing for their next album which is coming out in the upcoming days. They are disheartened when Dae-Hee and his co-worker informs them they have to stop playing in their rented basement. During their talk, a man comes by and offers the band to rent his attic room for a generous price. Dae-hee and his co-worker knows something is fishy, but just go about their business. The next day, the band discovers their musical instruments and rent money stolen by the con man who offered to rent his apartment. Meanwhile, they become angry at civil worker Dae-Hee who introduced them to the con man. They go visit Dae-Hee at his office. To avoid a scene in front of his boss, Dae-Hee quickly offers the band his basement for their practice sessions. Dae-Hee seems to have little interest in music or the kids. Yet, days later when 2 members quit the band, Dae-Hee is recruited to join the band as their bassist ....

Kato (Watanabe Daichi), a scriptwriter, is in love with Miho (Nao)—but he can never manage to muster up enough courage to make the relationship anything more than a platonic friendship. Seemingly oblivious to Kato's feelings for her, Miho is always calling him up and spilling her guts about her own love problems. She's in love with someone else, it turns out, but Kato swallows his pride—hearing about it all is almost too much to bear, but he wants to be with Miho as much as he can. In the meantime, the script he's working on for a TV drama mirrors a lot of his relationship with Miho. One day, Kato's friends tell him that his views on love are all mistaken, that he shouldn't delude himself into thinking that his dead-end crush on Miho will go anywhere. Emboldened and motivated, Kato finally decides to tell Miho exactly how he feels.
