In the early days of the Republic, legendary martial artist Ye Ruzhou suffers a severe injury, losing her memory and winding up in the impoverished alley of Minfu Lane. By a twist of fate, she crosses paths with the carefree Chen Awang, and the two fall for each other. Set in the 1970's, prior to the first North Korea-South Korea summit in South Korea. Sung-Geun (Sol Kyung-Gu) is a stage actor who is so passionate about his work. He only plays small characters. When his son Tae-Sik (Park Hae-Il) was young, he admired his father, but he now thinks of his father as a burden. Sung-Geun is soon to selected to play a double for North Korean dictator Kim Il-Sung.

Two years after Iruma Michio left first criminal court ("Ichikei") of the Tokyo District Court, he now works as a judge at Setouchi in Okayama Prefecture. He currently has an injury case involving Japan's youngest ever Minister of Defense.

Meanwhile, Sakama Chizuru works as a lawyer, following the system of judges' gain other work experience. She is currently working on a case involving a large local company. Her case is located in a neighboring town from where Iruma Michio works. Their two cases seem totally unrelated, but a secret is revealed between the two cases.

Because of her last name "Kumada" (bear + rice paddy) and her appearance, Misa's high school classmates call her "Pooh" disparagingly. She obviously has no friends and can only let down her guard around her pet parrot and the goldfish in the science room at school.
